Elmer married later in life because he looked after his stepmother who r a ised him. His own mother died when he was almost 4 years old. Elmer gra du ated first from Bulkeley school in NY in 1887 and Yale University in 1 892 . He was a businessman specializing in management of estates. He remo ve d to New London, Conn., and became director of the New London Norther n Ra ilway Company. He was president of the Nathan Hale Branch National S ociet y, S.A.R, New London, Conn., member of the Founders & Patriots of A meric a and member of the Society of Colonial Wars. He was past presiden t of th e New London Historical Society, and trustee of the Bacon & Hinkl ey Home s Foundation, New London. Elmer often came back to Cavendish, Vt . to visi t the spots where his ancestors all settled and visited the ol d Morgan Ce metery and the Twenty-Mile Stream Cemetery. Elmer died whil e on vacatio n in Wilmington, Delaware, March 27 1951. He was buried in t he Elm Grov e Cemetery in Mystic, Conn. near his mother and father.
