- Theodore I Laskaris or Lascaris (Greek: Θεόδωρος Κομνηνός Λάσκαρις, r o m a nized: Theodōros Komnēnos Laskaris; c. 1175 – November 1221) was t h e fi rs t Emperor of Nicaea—a successor state of the Byzantine Empire—f ro m 120 5 t o his death.
