- William Waring (Wareing) lived in Barr, Macoupin County, Illinois, f r o m a bout 1877 into the early 1880s. He was born in Dorstone, Hereford sh ir e, E ngland, Sept. 3, 1825, and emigrated to the United States wit h hi s h alf-b rother, John Carver, aboard the Josiah Bradlee. They arriv ed 1 8 Ap r 185 0 in New Orleans and Completed the journey to St. Louis , Misso uri, by riv erboat.
William married Elizabeth Frances Blackshaw on Oct. 22, 1853 in St. Lo u i s. She had been born Jun. 7, 1837, in Swineshead, Lincolnshire, Engla nd . T hey moved to Knob Noster City, Johnson County, Missouri, where th e i r firs t two daughters, Marie and Emma, were born in 1854 and 1856. T h e y returne d to St. Louis for the birth of John William in 1858. By t h e 18 60 census, recorded as Warren, they were in Montgomery County, Mis so uri, living ne ar Elizabeth's siblings. Sometime before 1870 they move d t o B erdan, Green e County, Illinois, to farm, also with Elizabeth's s ibli ngs. They added c hildren James Edward 1860, George Henry 1861, Kati e 186 5, Alice 1867, Rob ert Washington 1870, and Joseph Grant 1877. Hann ah Be l l was born in 187 8 in Palmyra, Macoupin County, Illinois. The la st two , Berdie and Elizabe th F., were born in Berdan. Elizabeth went ba ck t o b e with her family the re for the births. She died there of Child bed f eve r Nov. 12, 1879.
A grieving William buried his wife and five of their twelve children ( E m m a, James Edward, Alice, Berdie, and Elizabeth F.) in Hickory Grov e Ce me te ry, Greene County, Illinois, before leaving the area with hi s young e r chi ldren to join his half brother in the West. The older chi ldren re ma ined i n Macoupin County and nearby communities. Marie Warein g marrie d Mi chael H. Waltrip (b. 1852) on Oct 10 1893, and had at leas t three Ch ildr en: Eva, Reno, and Catharine. John William Wareing marrie d Celestin e Dep oir Besa nceney on Feb 13, 1887, and had four children : Gracie, Fre derick, Martha, and Mildred. George Henry Waring married Em ma S. Stratto n an d lived i n Oklahoma. Katie Waring married Robert Coll ier and live d in Ka nsas City, Jackson County, Missouri.
The younger surviving children, Robert Washington Waring, Joseph Gra n t W a reing, and Hannah Bell Waring chose Idaho as their home. RW, wh o li ve d t o be 94, married first, Emma Knight, then Rosetta Lillie Blac k Chr ist ians en, and finally Sarah Jane "Jennie" Hales Shenton. Josep h Gran t marr ied R oseltha Porter, and Hannah Bell married Peter Johnson .
William Waring was described by his niece, Maude Carver MdCamant , a s a " c hunky, short man with grey hair, who smiled a lot." His daugh te r Anni e li ved with him. He lived out his days in a little two-room h ous e in Pl ain C ity, Utah, where he was returned for burial after his d eat h in Blac kfoot, Idaho, on Dec. 10, 1916. He apparently died at the h om e of his so n, Jos eph Grant Wareing.
