      Darwin W Wareing

Darwin W Wareing of the Rose area in Blackfoot, ID, passed away on July 5, 2025 at the age of 87.

He was born May 5, 1938, the third of five children, to Marvin “Pete” and Lucille Barnes Wareing in Rose at their two-room farmhouse. He was in such a rush to start his life that Pete was the one to deliver him. He lived most of his life within a tenth of a mile from his childhood home. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

As a child, after farm chores were completed, Darwin spent his time building roads and playing with cars, trucks, and tractors on his miniature farm out in the garden. A canal ran alongside the farm in which he learned to swim and in later years, would spend many an afternoon cooling off in after hauling hay.

He attended schools in Rose and Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 1957. He furthered his education at Idaho State University, completing the Body and Fender Vo-Tech program.

He served a combined eight years, Active and Reserve, in the Idaho Army National Guard as a tank gunner. After his honorable discharge from military service, his sense of patriotism never faded.

He married Jeanne Pickering, with whom he had two children: Troy and Scott. They later divorced. Through a blind date, Darwin met, and eventually married, Margaret “Peggy” O’Neil. They had three children: Angie, Allise, and Jade. Their family was later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple. Darwin and Peggy recently celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Fueled by his life-long love for cool cars, Darwin’s early career found success in the automotive body field, working for different shops in the area. He also worked for Spudnik for 17 years as a fabricator, followed by 15 years with the Engineering Department at Bingham Memorial Hospital.

His skill with automotive body work extended beyond employment. His joy in restoring and customizing vehicles led to him building his own body shop business. Among other award-winning projects, his ‘63 Impala was featured in an issue of Popular Customs magazine. He was a perfectionist in his work, whether painting cars or walls.

He had a love of the outdoors and shared this with his family and friends. As an avid dirt-bike rider, Darwin took his family on many camping trips where he taught Peggy and their children to ride. Later in life he traded his two wheels for four, continuing his explorations just with a slightly more comfortable ride. Family was a high priority for Darwin, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to the many camping trips with his family, he took them on annual vacations. He and Peggy enjoyed many adventures together, including various road trips and world cruises, his favorite cruise being Alaska.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Peggy of Rose, ID; son, Troy (Jackie) Wareing of West Jordan, UT; daughter, Angie (John) Young of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Allise (Mike) Farrell of Bountiful, UT; son, Jade (Katheryn) Wareing of Rose, ID, and 15 grandchildren; brother, Arlin (Maxine) Wareing of Rose, ID; brother, Randy (Julia) Wareing, of Rose, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Wareing; twin granddaughters, Mikayla and Kaitlyn Young; grandson, Jonathan Wareing; sister, Mary Doyne Wareing, and brother, Richie Wareing.
