Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather (“Papa”) and friend pa s sed away on April 11, 2016, after many years of struggling with and th e n conquering cancer and the complications of cancer. Ray was 78 years o ld .
Raymond Leon Davis was an only son born December 28, 1937 to Eugene Gu s D avis and Clarine Lillian Ray in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in G rang er, Utah with two lovely sisters, Shirley Jean and Lynn. Ray marrie d hi s sweetheart, Joyce Gaylie Lelis on September 21, 1956 in the Salt L ake T emple.
Ray and Joyce lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Glendora, California, Metai r ie, Louisiana, Dallas, Texas, Casper, Wyoming, Gig Harbor, Washington a n d then to their beloved Spokane, Washington home. They have loved maki n g friendships here in Spokane for the past 32 years. Ray was a frien d t o many who loved his humor and wit. Many benefitted from his love, ca rin g and generosity.
Ray worked with concrete product manufacturing prior to purchasing and g r owing Inland Foundry in Mead, Washington. Judy Thomas was a faithful se cr etary for over 20 years working with him at the foundry. In his late r yea rs, Ray bought other properties which he developed and blessed hi s and Jo yce’s lives as well as the lives of many others. Ray loved flyin g his Ces sna 206 with his family and friends and found enjoyment each ti me he wen t flying.
He served faithfully as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints. His Christ like service and caring of others endeared his f ri ends to him. He worked in many callings, but enjoyed in later years se rvi ng on the High Council where he studied for and prepared talks to giv e t o help others come unto Christ. Ray loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. A ll h is life Ray loved hunting and fishing with his father-in-law and oth er de ar friends. They spent time in Idaho, Montana, Washington, New Zeal and, R ussia and Alaska. He especially loved going to the Dilly and fishi ng wit h his best friend, Travis Garske. Ray was a real pro at fly fishin g!
Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Lelis Davis, his three ch i ldren; Chris, Tari Davis and Craig (Marcy Flores). All of Spokane. Gran dc hildren; Carleigh (engaged to Dan Milan) of Seattle, Kassi (Joel Neuba uer ) of Spokane and Bryan of Arizona. Justin and Joshua Davis and Briann e (R ussell Simmer) of Texas. One cure great granddaughter, Zoey Simmer o f Tex as. Sisters; Shirley Jean Rydalch of Magna, Utah and lynn (Dale Kal mar) o f Ocala, Florida
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m . a t the LDS Chapel located at 5001 West Shawnee Ave., Spokane, Washingt on , 99208. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the service fro m 1 :00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
Dedication of the grave will be offered by Bishop Ron Hardy. Interment w i ll be at Heritage Riverside Memorial Park, 508 North Government Way Spo ka ne, WA 99224
