- Obituary:
Marion Anderson Ballif, 98, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007 a t t he Sunshine Terrace in Logan.
She was born at Centerville, Utah, October 4, 1908, a daughter of Claren c e D. and Libby H. Rich Anderson. She married Karl G. Ballif on May 28 , 19 36 in Provo, Utah, this marriage was later solemnized in the Logan L DS Te mple.
She graduated from Logan High School and Utah State University with a ma j or in English and Speech. She attended University of California at Berk le y, the University of Utah and the University of Idaho at Moscow. She t aug ht school in Idaho for six years and in her later years completed cer tifi cation to teach “Exceptional children” and taught in Park City, Sal t Lak e and Logan.
While living in Preston and Whitney, Idaho, her husband, Karl, farmed a n d worked in the Franklin Co. Farm Bureau office as Insurance Agent, an d M arion was secretary and publicity director and was in charge of the F ar m Bureau Radio Programs at KPST, Preston. She was the State Chairman o f T he Talent Find and Talk Meet, and wrote scripts for the Farm Bureau Y out h Programs presented on the radio.
Marion was a state officer in American Association of University Wome n , a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Honorary Teachers Society, Iota Chapte r , Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Active in Fine Arts Circle and P.T.A . U pon retirement, she received various awards from Utah American Pen Wo me n for drama, poetry and essays, and wrote featured article in the war d ne wsletter.
After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively and especial l y enjoyed Washington D.C. and archeological sites of South and Centra l Am erica, spending their winter months in the southwest.
She was an active member of the LDS Church, she had served in stake an d w ard teacher training programs, in drama, speech and literature and se rve d in all the auxiliaries. She was a member of the Northwood Ward.
Marion is survived by two sons, Karl C. (Marilyn) Ballif of Las Vegas, N e vada and James D. (Crystal) Ballif of Stanardsville, Virginia; four gra nd children, Trevor and Frank Ballif, Charlottesville, Virginia and Teres a M oody and Spencer Ballif of Las Vegas, Nevada and eight great grandchi ldre n.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m . a t Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and famil y ma y call on Thursday from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to services. Intermen t wil l be in the Logan City Cemetery.
