Obituary:
Roland Marie Henri Francois Robert Tifft passed away peacefully on Janua r y 23, 2015 in Bonita Springs, Florida. Born in Palembang, Indonesia o n Ma rch 27, 1936, of Clarence F. Tifft and Marguerite de Chazelles, he g radua ted from the Columbia Military Academy, Tennessee, in 1953. Rolan d serve d in the United States Army in Germany, where he achieved the ran k of Cor poral/Specialist 3. After his honorable discharge Roland attende d Tulan e University in New Orleans on the G.I. Bill. He graduated in 196 0 with a n Arts and Sciences degree. Roland was a purser aboard the S.S . Santa Ros a, booked cargo for Lykes Lines, Moore-McCormack Lines, and K uhn & Nage l in New Orleans, Nairobi, Kenya, Johannesburg, South Africa , Houston an d Washington D.C., and engaged in fleet management in Sydney , Australia . A world traveler, Roland was fluent in French, German and S panish. Rola nd enjoyed bird watching, photography, sky diving, travel, w ood working a nd writing insightful letters to the editor. He is survive d by the grea t love of his life, Kathryn Fernandez Tifft, sons Michael ( Camille) and K evin (Kate), his sister Adeline Abel, grandchildren Mary G race, Matthew , Catherine, Reilly, Delaney, Keely and Kyle, nephews Mar k and Charles Ab el, and a host of dear family and friends in Cape May, N ew Jersey. A serv ice and the scattering of ashes at sea are planned thi s Summer in Cape Ma y.
