Elisha and Experience (Mowry) Smith’s home is now owned by the Smithfie l d Historical Society since the mid 1970’s. Until then it was always own e d by Elisha’s descendants. My Mom looked to buy it but it needed more w or k than she could handle. If she had I would have been the next descend an t to live there! The original home was a typical one room home wit h a hug e fireplace. A buttery was added and a sick room or birthing room . A par t of a newer home was added to the back of the home in the styl e of pre R evolutionary War. A proper parlor with beautiful portraits o f George an d Martha Washington. The upstairs had a loom room and at leas t two more b edrooms. It’s beautiful! There is a large barn and an outhou se. The famil y cemetery is across a field. Their daughter Sarah marrie d Chad Brown an d moved to Chepachet, Glocester, R.I. I live in both town s for many year s not knowing of my ancestors until I was in my forties .
