Grandpa was a retired police officer and my siblings tell me that he cou l d at times be a little grouchy, because he worked hard and didn't wan t t o be disturbed (or have his programs be interrupted) when all the gra ndki ds came over. However, since I looked so much like him, I believ e I was s lightly favored of him. I was always welcomed to his lap from a n early ag e, and it became my favorite resting place as he watched his s hows unti l I was too old for such behaviors to be socially acceptable. A s I grew o lder, I loved to explore my Great Aunt's bedroom (she had th e most beauti ful dressing table with pretty perfumes!) and play in the " toy/family roo m" (converted garage).

Obituary:
John Aaron Nelson "Johnny" John Aaron Nelson, age 89, passed away on Sun d ay, September 11, 2005, following head trauma caused by several recen t fa lls. He was born to Joseph G. and Almeda Giles Nelson, January 17, 1 916 , in Preston, Idaho, the last of 12 children. After attending publi c scho ols in Preston he attended Utah Agricultural College (USU) in Loga n, grad uating with a degree in English in 1937. John married Nyena Sheph erd on A ugust 7, 1936, in the Salt Lake Temple. After his graduation, th ey move d to Salt Lake where he began a lifelong association with Standar d Oil (C hevron Texaco), working first in service stations, then the cent ral wareh ouse, and finally in the credit department. After retiring, h e worked fo r Appliance Service Center/Time and Instrument Co. for many y ears. John a nd Nyena have two daughters, Patricia and Catherine. The fam ily also incl uded "Uncle Joe," his "kid brother" Joseph D. Nelson. He lo ved to take hi s family camping to places like Yellowstone and the Utah P arks. Later i n life he enjoyed camping with his children and their famil ies. John wa s a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving as elders' qu orum presiden t, ward clerk, in the high priest group leadership. He wa s always support ive of his family's church callings, helping with the wa rd Relief Society , and delighting in traveling with Nyena and Pat on Tab ernacle Choir tour s. John lived and loved to serve the Lord by serving o thers and making th em happy. During the last few years, he often worke d at welfare square i n the cannery and the bakery, as recently as two we eks ago. John is survi ved by his daughters Patricia (Ronald) Madsen an d Catherine, both of Sal t Lake, eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandc hildren. He was precede d in death by his wife, Nyena, his parents, and a ll of his brothers and s isters. Funeral services will be held Saturday , September 17, 2005, at th e Foothill 1st Ward Chapel, 1930 S. 2100 East , at 11:00 a.m. There wil l b e a viewing at the Church from 9:00 a.m. t o 10:45 a.m. prior to the s ervices. Some of the most meaningful memories I have of my dad, Gordon Everett Ni e lson, are those involving his providing medical care to friends, famil y , and even complete strangers, in very unlikely places.
From my early Childhood, while we were living in a home on the beac h i n Laie, Hawaii, I remember there being a knock on the door at some po in t in the evening. I know it was after Dad had already spent the day i n hi s small clinic there in, and that it was after dark, although I don' t hav e any recollection of what time it actually was. (And this was no t an iso lated, one-time occurrence.) At the door were a couple of member s of a lo cal Polynesian family. They were in need of medical care and al though the re were medical services available at a small hospital in a ne arby town , everyone in the village knew, and expected that, Dad would ta ke care o f them and make them well. He was "their" doctor. One evenin g I remembe r that as the evening progressed, others kept showing up an d at a time th at was well past my bed-time, the "lanai" (our covered pat io), was crowde d with residents of the community and their families, bei ng taken care o f by Doc Nielson.
Dad had a "call bag" that he took everywhere with him. Sometimes yo u w ill still see a doctor that has a call bag, but they're typically jus t li ttle bags, no bigger than a medium-sized women's purse. Dad's call b ag wa s enormous, like a smaitcase, probably weighing 15 pounds or more . Whenev er he left home for more than just a short time, particularly i f he was g oing out of town, he carried that with him. I remember many ti mes while g rowing up at home, helping him go through the contents, makin g sure all t he medications and supplies were fresh and refilled. Dad h a d the capacit y, with that call bag, to even perform minor surgery or c are for a hear t attack patient.
I've seen him, and even helped him, do both. Even on vacations suc h a s when visiting the Mayan ruins at Tikal in Guatemala; or while on th e is land of Roatan off the coast of Honduras; or when on hunting trips a s i n the Malpai country neard, Arizona...Dad was providing medical car e an d relief to those who needed it, just because he could........and be caus e that's what his heart told him to do.

Joseph D. Nelson, born April 5, 1923, in Boise, Idaho, to Emma Nelson, d i ed suddenly and unexpectedly at home August 27, 1998, of heart failure.

Joe lived in Logan in his early years, graduated from the University o f U tah, and lived and worked in Salt Lake. Joe retired from the Salt Lak e Ci ty School District where he had taught history for many years at bot h Wes t and Highland High Schools, and was then a Psychologist for the Sa lt Lak e City School District. Joe was a World War II veteran and a recip ient o f the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Joe loved many things, includi ng phot ography, golf, gardening, reading, and travel. In his traveling h e had be en to all seven continents, having just this year been to Antarc tica. H e had been on several photographic safaris to Africa, and cruise d on th e Nile River. His love of reading combined with his interest in h istory m ade historical novels a favorite of his. He would spend many hou rs readin g on his patio that overlooked his garden. Joe loved to putter , and espec ially to putt. Joe went golfing many times a week, includin g the mornin g of the day he died. He was a member of the LDS Church.

He is survived by Karma Albiston (sister), John A. Nelson ("brother"), C a therine Nelson (Niece), Patricia N. Madsen (Niece), and was "Uncle Joe " t o many great and great great nieces and nephews. Part of his writte n inst ructions in the event of death were to contact "anyone who might b e inter ested in the final state of my health!!"

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 31, 1998, in the Monument P a rk 5th Ward Chapel, 1930 South 2100 East, at 11 a.m. Viewing will be Su nd ay, August 30, 1998, at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, fro m 6 - 7:30 p.m., and at the Church on Monday from 9:45 a.m. prior to th e serv ice. Obituary: Kaye F. "KF" Nelson 1932 ~ 2009 Kaye F. "KF" Nelson, 77, of Hu r ricane, Utah, passed away on June 11, 2009 at Dixie Regional Medical Ce nt er in St. George, Utah. He died as the result of injury complication s fro m a bicycle accident while doing what he loved most, participatin g in a t riathlon and acting as a Scoutmaster.

KF was born in 1932 to Don and Gladys Nelson in Preston, Idaho, but liv e d mostly in Utah after an eleven-year stay in Southern California. KF m ar ried his sweetheart, Marilyn Mae Stanton, in 1954. Their marriage wa s lat er solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a graduate of the Uni versit y of Utah with an MS in Electrical Engineering. After retirement , he wa s an adjunct instructor at Dixie State College. He was a faithfu l membe r of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served t wice a s Bishop and as a Scoutmaster for some 30-plus years, receiving th e Silve r Beaver award and influencing the lives of hundreds of young men , includ ing countless Eagle Scouts.

Additionally, Kaye also fulfilled two missions, first in Mongolia and mo s t recently in the Philippines, with his beloved wife and companion, Mar il yn. KF is survived by his wife, Marilyn; four children, Bradford (Kim) , E ric (Shari), Kirsten (Rick) Skow, and Marta (Thomas) Cooney; grandchi ldre n, Bret (Ashlee), Kara (Mathew) Fullmer, Kristin (Scott)Mabb, Kately n (Ne lson) Gaston, Kourtney, Tayler, Parker, Cole, Morgan, Joshua, Aaron , an d Rory; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Corrinne, Jace, and Emily.

We will all miss him terribly and hope there are triathlons waiting fo r h im to compete in, for he truly enjoyed the race and loved the competi tion . KF participated in some 30 plus marathons, half-marathons and seve ral t riathlons. His enthusiasm for these events was infectious and man y peopl e love these sports today due to his influence.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m . i n the Hurricane 11th Ward Chapel, 452 North 2600 West, Hurricane, Uta h . A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the churc h , just prior to services. Interment will take place at the Hurricane Ci t y Cemetery. Obituary: Frankie Nelson Whipple passed away peacefully Monday, November 22, 2021, at age 84. She was born January 1, 1937, to Gladys Benson and Don Giles Nelson, the second of three children. She married her swee t h eart Gene Whipple September 25, 1952. Together they had six children: Terry (Susan), Randy (Lynn), Steven (Kelly), Christopher (Thong Vanh) , Lilli e Neeley (Patrick), David (Jessica), and many grandchildren and great-gr andchildren.

Frankie was a life-long learner. She loved reading and sharing books with her grandchildren. With determination she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in education, magna cum laude, while still raising her family. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. She Completed the requirements for the Honor's Program. She taught reading at Hillcrest Junior High and was very successful at it. Frankie was also a gifted writer and poet.

Frankie was a talented seamstress. She made many of her own clothes, as well as several adorable matching outfits for the children. She loved stuffed animals, fairies, and anything whimsical. Her house reflected her love of color and pattern together.

Frankie loved traveling. She and Gene spent their golden years traveling around the US in their motor home. She especially loved Native American art and memorabilia.

Frankie was very musical, and she was an accomplished pianist and play ed many of the classics such as Chopin and Rachmaninoff. She taught piano to her grandchildren. She was a choir director and organist in her ward for many years. One of her greatest joys was to gather around the piano at Christmastime and sing Christmas songs in parts.

Her family meant everything to her. She loved having get-togethers at her house with family around. Christmas Eve was a big event in her life, and she loved the noisy, messy event with the grandchildren’s squeals of delight with her gifts. You could always find her with the newest baby in her arms.

Frankie is survived by her children, grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Kaye and sister Lorraine, daughter-in-law Karen, and great-grandson Jonathan Wareing.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 11th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Premier Funeral Services (67 East 8000 South) in Midvale. A viewing will precede the service at 10:30 a.m. We would request that those attending wear masks.

We would like to thank the caring staff and Copper Ridge Care Center for their thoughtful care to Mom and Dad while they were there.

Long time resident of Gresham, Oregon, Scott Nelson passed away in his h o me at the age of 70. Born in La Jolla, California to Jesse and Opal Nel so n, Scott is survived by his wife, Caryn; their children: Jana, Holly , J.R ., Eric, Lindsay, and Aimee; seventeen grandchildren; one great-gra ndchil d; and his sister, Julie Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona. In addition , Scot t was a foster parent to many children in the Portland area.

Scott served in the military as a Captain. He also worked in real esta t e and corporate sales, and most recently was the owner and proprieto r o f Harvest Mill Bakery for over fifteen years. He was an active membe r o f the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as a vo lunt eer in several community organizations. With a lively sense of humo r an d genuine interest in people, Scott touched the lives of many throug hou t his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Denny and Jim.

A Photographer

Scott was fond of photography, and oftentimes elected to be the one to t a ke pictures and had to be coerced to be in one. On vacations and trips , h e'd be the one to document everything and everyone .

He and his wife were having a date night one night in Portland and wande r ed into an outdoor banquet for an artists' convention. Recognizing a fr e e meal and a golden opportunity, Scott grabbed an unclaimed name-tag a n d sat down with a group of artists and began to chat. His wife, Caryn , wa s mortified, and practically shaking in terror at the prospect of be ing c aught in a bold-faced lie. Scott, however, was making friends wit h all th e other artists. When asked what his medium was, he claimed phot ography . After enjoying a steak dinner and the company of pretentious Po rtland a rtists, he left them for the night with the promise that he'd se e them th e next day at the art gala. Needless to say, Scott and Caryn we re not i n attendance.

Scott also loved taking pictures of nature. One time, he and his wife we r e visiting their son, JR, daughter-in-law, and baby granddaughter who h a d just moved to California. His daughter-in-law, Katie, was looking fo r s omething they could do as a family, and so she decided to take a fami ly t rip to Yosemite. They were driving through the park and tensions wer e hig h as Scott had forgotten to pack a lunch. To make matters worse, Sc ott in sisted on stopping the car every time he saw a beautiful vista t o the poi nt that several park rangers would approach them and say that t hey neede d to keep moving as they were holding up traffic. But Scott go t to take n ice pictures, so that's what matters.

Dad was always a good provider, though financially our family struggle d t o make ends meet. This was especially true at the end of his life,whe n i t was impossible for him to put in the long hours that he had in youn ge r years as he faced his illness. Dad wasn't fond of the little kids- t he y kinda drove him crazy with their fussiness and dependence. However , mo m was very good with the babies, so that was not a problem. Dad love d tal king with the teen children. At times, I thought he probably ha d a bette r relationship with most of his older kids than he did with hi s wife,,bu t of course that was me looking from the outside of his relati onship wit h mom. It was obvious that the two of them loved each other an d made sacr ifices for each other. I remember one Christmas, when mom cam e into the l iving room and found the furniture she had been admiring pop ulating her f ront room!! She was so excited! Dad had the cutest smug fac e... It was pr ecious!
As a teen, I loved to sit for hours with him as he reclined in his com f y chair, especially in his later years (he died of heart disease at a v er y young age.) He had a vast knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a n d could expound on most any topic due to his extensive reading and thir s t for understanding. It was a blessing to have his counsel and guidanc e , as he was non-judgemental and loving as he tenderly welcomed us to h i s arms. I don't know how I could have made it through those difficult y ea rs without him.
I miss him terribly.

CLINTON -- On July 1, 2001 while vacationing with his family, my lovin g h usband Eddie returned home to his Heavenly Father after an eleven yea r ba ttle with Asthma.

Ed was born on March 5, 1966 in Ogden, Utah to Richard D. Naylor and Lin d a Laub Newton. He was raised in Clearfield where he graduated from Clea rf ield High School class of 1984. He married his best friend and soulmat e W endi J. Roe on October 2, 1993.

Ed was employed for six years at the Defense Depot Ogden and was current l y working as a machinist at Hill Air Force Base.

Ed was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We were enjoying every minute of our lives together while raising our th r ee wonderful boys.

Eddie was truly one of a kind, all that were fortunate enough to have kn o wn him would certainly agree. His smile was contagious and his fun lovi n g personality drew people to him. He loved to make people laugh and cou ld n't wait to find a target for his next prank. Eddie had a way of maki n g a new friend through simple conversation.

Eddie enjoyed everything about life. He loved sports with a passion an d b elieved that his boys would certainly be professional athletes. He ha d th e wonderful gift of patience. He coached our oldest son in little le agu e football, our middle son in baseball and had spring training in th e fro nt room with our three year old. The boys and I always came first , he tru ly adored us and told us so every day.

Ed had a passion for music, we enjoyed traveling to see his favorite ba n d "Night Ranger" with his lifelong friend, Dave Houston. Eddie loved t o p lay cards, as long as there was a side bet. He also enjoyed fishing i f so meone would bait his hook and couldn't wait for his next trip to th e hors e races.

Surviving are his wife, Wendi, three sons, Nicholas Michael (14), Treyt o n Richard (7), and Bridger Edward (3), of Clinton; who look forward t o th e day that they will be reunited. Eddie is also survived by his pare nts , one sister, Cindy Crosby (Billy), Hooper; and three brothers, Gre g (Hei di), West Point; Eric (Tamra), Hooper; and David (Roxane), Apple V alley , grandparents, Boyd and Lena Naylor, in-laws, Mike and Vicki Roe , Dus t y (Kellie) Roe, Heidi (Shane) McCowen, grandma, Bertella Douglas , and m any nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Ann Laub.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Lindqui s t's Layton Mortuary,1867 No. Fairfield Road.

Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday fro m 9 : 4 5 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Clinton City Cemetery.
