    Notes:

Charles Call is Walt Disney's Grandfather and is Father to Flora Disney (Call) Walt's Mother. Charles who was a school teacher is buried next to his wife Henrietta Call (Gross) Walt's Grandmother, she died on February 21, 1910. Charles and Henrietta are in an old rural cemetery called Ponceannah and have a headstone with inscriptions. Walt Disney's parents Flora and Elias Disney were married on January 1, 1888 in Kismet, FL not far from Ponceannah Cemetery. The Call's and Disney's both had homesteads and worked in an around Kismet and Acron, FL. Today both towns do not exist, but were near the present town of Paisley, FL. Various unpaved roads and trails lead to the site of the Call and Disney homesteads. Interesting fact is that Ponceannah Cemetery and the homestead sites are only about 50 miles north of Walt Disney World near Lake Buena Vista, FL. Close by Disney World is a city called Kissimmee that sounds like the town Kismet where Walt's parents were married (Kissimmee is indian for "Heaven's Place"). Ponceannah Cemetery is in a rural part of North west Lake County near Paisley, FL and closet major city is Deland, FL in Volusia County. The cemetery is past Paisley on the north side of CR 4 2 between Clearwater Lake Recreation Area and the Blackwater Creek Swamp near the southern boundary of the Ocala National Forest. Walt Disney and his Brother Roy later in life visited this area.

Charles married Henrietta Catherine Gross on 9 Sep 1855 in Pella, Marion, Iowa, United States. Henrietta (daughter of John George Gross and Catherine Hannah Schmidt) was born on 22 Jul 1837 in Miehlen, Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland; died on 21 Feb 1910 in Paisley, Lake, Florida, United States; was buried in Ponceannah Cemetery, Paisley, Lake, Florida, United States. Notes:

    FLORA CALL DISNEY ~
was the wife of Elias Charles Disney. She is the mother of Walt Disney, (Walter Elias Disney). Her other children were Herbert Arthur Disney, Raymond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney and Ruth Flora Disney .

Elias Charles Disney and his wife Flora Call Disney are entombed within the Great Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Truth in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, California.

Walt Disney and his family are remembered in a beautiful private garden in another location in this same Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, California. Other family is in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale and the Hollywood Hills

Flora was born in Steuben, Ohio, the daughter of Henrietta (née Gross) (1837–1910) and Charles Call (1823–1890), who were neighbors of Kepple Elias Disney and Mary Disney, parents of Elias Charles Disney, her husband. She was of German and English descent .

She was a devoted and loving wife to Elias Charles and she raised their children affirming the strict Christian values she and Elias wanted to instill in each one of their children.

The many moves Elias often needed to make were accepted by Flora because she believed each move was intended to make their family closer and hopefully more financially sound, and she wanted their children to experi enc e other regions of the country. Flora fortunately was a very calm presence to Elias and each one of their children.

It was Flora who seemed to temper the strict and rigid disposition of Elias and she calmed him when he did seem less tolerable when he was fraught with disciplinary actions with their children. To be certain, Elias loved his family and he was likely under pressure due to financial problems! Flora really enjoyed reading stories daily and even often playing ga me s with their children.

In Marceline, Missouri, when the Disney Family owned a small farm, Flora always made certain the children had good meals, warm clothes in the colder months, and that they spent time outside playing and learning about the various farm animals on their farm. Walt was first exposed to all sorts of farm animals that most likely ingrained in his heart his deep love for animals as he would later portray in so many of his beloved animated and true-life films! In later years Walt would often reminiscence about the good times on the farm in Marceline and about the many animals he loved and that his parents wanted him to respect and to enjoy and to love!

It was in Marceline when Elias bought Flora her first sewing machine. She was quite a seamstress and she made most of the clothes for the children. She liked red and blue threads and used a lot of these colors on her new leg-powered sewing machine!

When the Disney's lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Flora always made sure each child had a good sack lunch for school and when Walt and Roy delivered newspapers for Elias early each morning and again after school, Flora saw to it that the boys were dressed properly with extra layers of clothes in the cold bitter winters and that they had good food to eat.

Flora always did her best to see that the children knew that their birthdays were special even though it was seldom an experience for Flora to be able to have enough eggs to bake cakes. She would spread "extra butter" on a fresh slice of home baked bread and make this a special gift for each one of their birthdays.

She and Elias were quite happy when the family moved to Kansas City. She encouraged each of their children to be excited about each new day and to dream about the future. Flora felt things were more stable for her f amily in Kansas City as they were all working!

Sons Raymond Arnold Disney and Roy Oliver Disney were bank tellers at the First National Bank in downtown Kansas City, Missouri at the same time Walt opened his first animation studio he called Laugh-O-gram Studio located at 31st and Forest Avenue. This original building remains today, albeit in disrepair, and hopefully will be fully restored! A most concerted effort is in place to renew this building!

Raymond Arnold Disney's son who is Charles Elias Disney was named after his grandfather Elias Charles Disney. Elias only saw Charles Elias for a short time before he passed away on his grandsons first birthday on September 13, 1941.

After several years in Kansas City, Flora and Elias moved to Oregon to be with their son Herbert Arthur Disney and his family, and then they moved to California at the insistence of Walt and Roy.

After the success of their milestone feature animated film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1938, Walt and Roy presented their parents with a new home in North Hollywood, near the Disney studios in Burbank, California. Less than a month after moving in, Flora complained to Walt and Roy of problems with the gas furnace in her new home. Studio repairmen were sent to the house twice, but the problem was obviously not adequately fixed. Flora wrote a letter to her daughter Ruth describing their wonderful new home, the beautiful California weather, and how very happy she and Elias were to be close to Walt and Roy, but again complaining of the fumes from the furnace.

Flora passed from this life on Saturday, November 26, 1938 (two days after Thanksgiving) as the result of asphyxiation caused by the fumes. On Thanksgiving day Flora and Elias had enjoyed a lovely dinner with Walt and Lillian and Roy and Edna in Walt's home. The loss of his Mother plagued Walt Disney with much deep grief for the rest of his life. Walt felt personally responsible for the furnace not being repaired properly. It was Roy Oliver Disney who comforted and reassured both Walt and Elias and the rest of the family that "the tragic and very sad loss of Flora was no one's fault!"

Walt and his siblings thought about their beloved Mother for the rest of their lives! Flora was a woman of strong Christian character and her family was everything to her. And she was everything to them!

"May Flora Call Disney Rest In Peace." Amen.

Flora married Elias Charles Disney on 1 Jan 1888 in Kismet, Lake, Florida, United States. Elias (son of Kepple Elias Disney and Mary Jane Richardson) was born on 6 Feb 1859 in Bluevale, Morris-Turnberry, Huron, Ontario, Canada; died on 13 Sep 1941 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States; was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles, California, United States. HERBERT ARTHUR DISNEY ~
was born on December 8, 1888 in Acron, Florida. (This town no longer exists but it is near Sorrento, Florida). His parents were Elias Charles Disney and Flora Call Disney.

His siblings were brothers Raymond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney, Walter Elias (Walt) Disney, and one sister Ruth Flora Disney. Herbert was the oldest of the five children.

Herbert served in the U. S. Army during WWI.

Herbert was married to Louise R. Rast Disney and after Louise passed away, he married Margaret Chapman Disney. Herbert is interred next to his first wife Louise Disney in Valhalla Memorial Park at 10621 Victory Blvd. in North Hollywood, California.

Herbert and Louise had one daughter Dorothy Disney (Purder) who was born on July 1, 1915 in Kansas City, Missouri. Dorothy passed away on September 28, 2007 in Napa, California.

In the earlier years, Herbert and brother Raymond lived in Marceline, Missouri and both tired of farm life so they moved back to Chicago where the family lived before moving to Marceline. When their parents Elias and Flora moved from Marceline to Kansas City, Missouri, both of the brothers moved to Kansas City and resided with the family. It was during these later years that brother Walt started the Laugh-O-gram Studio and brothers Raymond and Roy were tellers at the First National Bank in downtown Kansas City.

In Kansas City Herbert met Louise R. Rast whom he married and they had one daughter Dorothy.

When Herbert's brothers Walt and Roy moved to California, Herbert and Louise and daughter Dorothy moved to Oregon. Later on, Herbert's mom and dad, (Elias Charles Disney and Flora Call Disney) moved to Oregon before finally settling in North Hollywood, California where Walt and Roy purchased them a new home close to the Disney Brothers' Studio. Herbert and his family also finally moved to California so the family was closer and finally together again.

Herbert was with the U. S. Postal Service for many years in Los Angeles, California.

Herbert married Louise Rose Rast on 14 Aug 1913 in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, United States. Louise (daughter of William Rast and Julia Arle Rhedanz) was born on 15 Sep 1891 in Missouri, United States; died on 21 Apr 1953 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States; was buried in Apr 1953 in Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery, North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States. Notes:

    RAYMOND ARNOLD DISNEY ~
was one of the older brothers of entertainment legend Walter Elias Disney (Walt Disney). Among others, his close family included his spouse Meredith A. Disney and two sons Charles Elias Disney and Daniel Harwood Disney.

Raymond had one grandson, Charles Roy (Charlie) Disney, who was the son of Charles Elias Disney and Mary Elizabeth (O'Brien) Disney. Both Mary Elizabeth and Charles Roy died in an auto accident in 1972. After Raymond passed away, his son Charles Elias Disney adopted Cristian Petrea the son of longtime family friends and his name became Cristian Petrea Disney. Sadly, Cristian passed awy on May 10, 2018 as the result of cardiomegaly.

Raymond owned his own very successful insurance business for over forty-five years on North Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles, California. He handled most of the insurance for his brothers Walt and Roy and for their original Disney Bros. Studio in 1923 and later for Walt Disney Productions in Burbank, CA. Raymond was a close confidant and he advised brothers Walt and Roy throughout their lives and especially in the early years of Disney Bros. Studio and Walt Disney Productions. He really enjoyed spending much time with his brothers as they originally established what was to become the vast Disney Entertainment Enterprises, now known as The Walt Disney Company.

Raymond like his brother Walt, also greatly admired Abraham Lincoln and he worked alongside his brother Walt when the "Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln" exhibit was created for the Illinois Pavilion for the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair and later in 1965 was moved to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Today Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is an element of the Disneyland attraction "The Disneyland Story" presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, which opened in 2009.

Raymond had an uncanny sense about dates and numbers! Raymond was greatly saddened when each one of his brothers passed away respectively, and he deeply missed them for the rest of his own life. Walt and Roy were both younger than Ray.

Raymond served in the U. S. Army during World War I. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Los Angeles.

Early in life Raymond was a bank teller in Kansas City, Missouri at the Southwest National Bank of Commerce and the First National Bank at 10th & Baltimore Avenue in downtown Kansas City, the same bank where his brother Roy Oliver Disney also worked. Today, this bank building remains and is the Central Library of Kansas City. He always had a "soft spot" for Kansas City and would visit there many times across his lifetime.

Raymond was a member of St. Augustine by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Santa Monica. He funded a large most beautiful and quite spectacular flower garden for many years that was so prominent in the churchyard filled with so many native blooming flowers for each season.

He was a very kind and generous gentleman! Ray had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people happy. Raymond loved cats and dogs and would always help strays find homes (often in his own home) that seemed to find their way to his door! He made very generous donations to local animal shelters for many years.

Raymond was quite active in the Masonic Lodge and the Los Angeles, California Al Malaikah Shrine Temple A. A. O. N. M. S. activities across many years. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Los Angeles. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and he participated in The Book of the Play. He was so proud of the fact that he enjoyed a personal meeting with Frank S. Land, the founder of the International Order of DeMolay with headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. Ray bequeathed a very considerable amount of his large estate to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Los Angeles and the Shriner's Children's Burn Hospital in Galveston, Texas.

If you are so inclined and want to help something really "magnificent" Raymond Arnold Disney would want you to reach out and donate to the Shriner's Hospitals For Children: (888) 337-0080!

Raymond was 98 when he passed from this life on Wednesday, May 24, 1989 at his home in Santa Monica, California, with his son Charles Elias Disney at his side.

Raymond's funeral service was held in the Little Church of the Flowers in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, CA on Saturday, May 27, 1989. Also, a Royal Order of Jester's Rose Ceremony and a Masonic Service followed the religious services. His remains were then entombed in the Freedom Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Prayer Room close to the garden where Walt and Lillian and other family members ashes are entombed. Everything at Forest Lawn, as usual, was so beautiful and quite uplifting for the family and friends!

    ROY OLIVER DISNEY ~

An American businessman, partner and co-founder, along with his younger brother Walt Disney, of Walt Disney Productions, now known as The Walt Disney Company.

Roy was born to Irish-Canadian Elias Charles Disney and English-German-American Flora Call Disney in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Marceline, Missouri, in 1896, and to Kansas City, Missouri in 1911. On July 1, 1911, Roy's father Elias purchased a newspaper delivery route for The Kansas City Star and The Kansas City Times. It extended from 27th Street to 31st Street, and from Prospect Avenue to Indiana Avenue. Roy and his brother, Walt worked as newspaper delivery-boys. The family delivered the morning newspaper, The Kansas City Times, to approximately 700 customers, and The Kansas City Star to more than 600 customers. The number of customers served increased with time.

Roy graduated from the Manual Training High School of Kansas City in 1912. He left the paper delivery route and worked on a farm in the summer. He was then employed as a bank clerk along with his brother, Raymond Arnold Disney at the First National Bank in downtown Kansas City. At this same time Roy's brother Walt developed his Laugh-O-gram Studios in Kansas City.

Roy served in the United States Navy from 1917 to 1919. Roy contracted tuberculosis, therefore, was discharged from military duty. He relocated to Los Angeles and worked as a banker whilst recuperating in hospital. In 1923, his brother, Walt joined Roy in Hollywood after he filed for bankruptcy in Kansas City, and the two planned the start of the Disney Brothers Studio.

The brothers ordered kit houses from Los Angeles-based Pacific Ready Cut Homes, and in 1928, built their homes adjacently on Lyric Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood.

Whilst Walt led the creative side, Roy guided the business side and finances. Roy and Walt both founded Disney Bros. Studios as brothers, but Walt would later buyout most of Roy's share in 1929 so, unlike Max and Dave Fleischer of rival Fleischer Studios, Roy was not a co-producer.

However, Roy would be an equal partner in all facets of the production company and he became the company's first CEO in 1929, although the official title was not given to him until 1968. He also shared the role of Chairman of the Board with Walt from 1945. In 1960, Walt dropped the Chairman title so he could focus more on the creative aspects of the company.

Following Walt's death in 1966, Roy postponed his retirement to oversee construction of what was then known as Disney World. He later renamed the park "Walt Disney World" as a tribute to his brother. Roy became the president of Walt Disney Productions headquartered in Burbank, California on December 15, 1966, until 1968.

Roy Oliver Disney was married to Edna Francis from April 1925 until his death. Their only child, Roy Edward Disney, was born on January 10, 1930. Throughout his life, Roy rejected the publicity and fame that came with being Walt's brother. Roy's nephew who is Charles Elias Disney named his sons middle name Charles Roy Disney after Roy.

After the opening of Walt Disney World in October 1971, Roy finally retired. He passed away, on December 20, 1971, age 78, from an intracranial hemorrhage. He is interred in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park (Hollywood Hills) in Los Angeles alongside his wife Edna Disney.

When the Walt Disney Concert Hall opened in Los Angeles, included within the structure complex is the REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) is an interdisciplinary contemporary arts center for innovative visual, performing and media arts in downtown Los Angeles. Opened in November 2003 as the initial professional presenting arm of CalArts, REDCAT has since garnered a reputation for groundbreaking theater and a worldwide arts following as a launching platform for up-and-coming local artists, and for introducing internationally acclaimed productions and exhibitions to L.A. audiences that are often premiering on the West Coast for the first time.

Roy married Edna Francis on 11 Apr 1925 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States. Edna (daughter of Edward S Francis and Lette Montana Milbourn) was born on 16 Jan 1890 in Reece, Greenwood, Kansas, United States; died on 20 Dec 1984 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States; was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles, California, United States. Entertainment Magnate and Film Pioneer. Most remembered for creating Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and a host of other cartoon characters. He has won 32 Oscars, more than any other person, for his extraordinary achievements in films. Born Walter Elias Disney, the son of Elias and Flora Disney in Chicago, Illinois. His father's ancestors had come to America from Kilkenny, Ireland, seeking to escape from religious persecution. His father was always seeking success in many occupations but always finding failure, and the Disney family was always poor. Walt found that he could escape his father's harsh discipline by drawing, and in 1917, when he was 16 years old, he lied about his age to join the American Red Cross Ambulance Corps. When he was mustered out at the end of World War I, he set up shop as a commercial artist in Kansas City, Missouri. There he discovered the world of animation, and Walt took to it. Moving to Los Angeles in 1923 to be with his more successful brother, Roy, Walt began drawing commercially, making a modest living by drawing for the Alice series of cartoons, about a live action girl who travels to the world of animated cartoon animals. In 1927, his first really successful commercial cartoon, featuring Oswald the Rabbit, became a success, but Walt lost the rights to the character when sued by his distributor. From then on, Walt insisted on owning the distribution rights to his creations. In 1928, Walt created Mickey Mouse. His third Mickey Mouse film, "Steamboat Willie," was the first cartoon to use synchronized sound and became an overnight success. Walt was the voice of Mickey for the first ten years of the cartoon. In 1934, Disney pioneered the first full length cartoon movie, "Snow White", and again, critics were overcome by the sheer popular response of the public to the movie. In 1950, he produced his first live-action film, "Treasure Island," and in 1955, he opened his first theme park, Disneyland. Prior to his death in 1966 in Los Angeles, California, of lung cancer, he began work on his latest theme park in Orlando, Florida: Walt Disney's World. His brother, Roy, the business genius behind the scenes, continued to run the company, and decades after Walt's death, the Disney empire is still financially strong and keeping to Walt's legacy. Shortly after Walt's death, the Disney Company executive board was shown a short film that Walt made just before his death, where he addressed each board member by name, telling him what he expected of him, and ending the film by saying "I'll be seeing you." Walt Disney was one of the few Americans to be honored with a US postage stamp issued less than two years after his death (the US Postal Service prefers to issue stamps at least ten years after a person has died; an exception is made for US presidents), when a 6 cent stamp was issued in September 1968 in his honor.

Walter married Lillian Marie Bounds on 13 Jul 1925 in Lewiston, Nez Perce, Idaho, United States, and was divorced in 1939. Lillian (daughter of Willard Pehall Bounds and Jeanette Short) was born on 15 Feb 1899 in Spalding, Nez Perce, Idaho, United States; died on 16 Dec 1997 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.
