Catherine Curtis Senior was born 11 June 1848 in Yorkshire, England, t h e 5th of nine children and 3rd daughter of Robert Senior (1816-1871) a n d Sarah Haigh (1819-1889). In 1860, at the age of 12, she was baptize d an d confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Sai nts.

In 1865 at the age of 17 she married James Illingworth Broughton, who w a s 20, in Yorkshire, England. They had two sons Arthur Broughton born i n 1 866 and Lemuel Broughton born in 1867. Shortly after Lemuel was born , he r marriage to James broke up and in 1868 Catherine took her two infa nt so ns and immigrated to Utah, arriving with the John Gillespie Compan y 15 Se ptember 1868.

About 1870 Catherine married William Lavin and they had two children Cat h erine Ida (Kate) Lavin born 24 November 1872 in Salt Lake City, Utah a n d William Lavin born in 1874 in Payson, Utah. Catherine died at the ag e o f 27 on 17 October 1875, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Arthur Broughton was 9 years old when his mother died. It is believed th a t he lived with his uncle Joseph Broughton in Tooele County, Utah afte r h is mother's death and later moved to Walkerville, Montana where he li ve d with his father James I. Broughton and his stepmother for many years .

Lemuel Broughton was 8 years old when his mother died. Based on the 18 8 0 US Census record, he was probably raised by his grandmother Sarah Lan ie r in Payson, Utah. Lemuel married Sarah Myrtle Hutson 14 July 1913 i n Bri tish Columbia, Canada. He died at the age of 68, 10 Sep 1937 in Sac rament o, California.

History of William Hyrum Bennett (1869-1947)

William Hyrum Bennett was born in Payson, Utah, October 27, 1869, to Jo h n Bell and Mary Senior Bennett. His Father, John Bell Bennett, was bo r n May 16, 1830 in Shelby, Illinois. He came to Utah October 7, 1851 . H e lived in Nauvoo at the time the Saints were driven out and he tol d hi s family of the wonderful contacts he had with the Prophet Joseph Sm ith a nd how he loved him. He died Feb 2, 1902 in Lehi and was buried i n the P ayson Cemetery.
Mary Senior Bennett was born in Shelly County Yorkshire England, Marc h 2 , 1839, and came to Utah in 1861. She was the mother of 12 children , loo sing five children in their infancy. She died May 20, 1891 at Prov o, Uta h, leaving her husband with seven sons to care for the support. T heir en dowments and sealings took place October 30, 1871.
William the fifth child of a family of 12 was 8 years old when his fami l y moved to Provo in order for the family to receive better schooling . H e was very industrious and even though very young, he was willing t o wor k and always had a job of some kind to support himself and help wit h th e family income. He received his education in the Payson and Prov o schoo ls, often missing school, after has mother died, to help his Fath er. Whi le very young he came to Meadow, Utah to help his Uncle Hyrum Be ll Bennet t on the farm. He never did go back to Provo to live. His Unc le raise d him as his very own son. Even though he had close family tie s with hi s own family, William dearly loved his Uncle and family and alw ays had hi s own children call his cousins Uncle and Aunt. He furthere d his educati on by attending the Millard Stake Academy in Fillmore.
He lived neighbors to the John Bushnell family and learned to love the b e autiful Elizabeth. They were married and received their endowments Nov em ber 21, 1894 in the Manti Temple. He was always very proud of his bel ove d Elizabeth and her many talents.
Elizabeth was born in Meadow, Utah, to John and Elizabeth Brockbank Bus h nell, April 11, 1869. She received her early education in the Meadow s ch ool and later attended the Millard Stake Academy.
Elizabeth adored her father, mother and family. She was always of a ha p py nature and could always see the beautiful side of life but was sadde ne d by the death of her older brother Isaac. When she was 13 years of a g e her father passed away leaving her very sad indeed.
Elizabeth was blessed with many lovely talents. A beautiful singing vo i ce, a wonderful speaking voice and a marvelous memory for memorizing ve r y long readings. She used her beautiful talents everywhere she went en te rtaining people in church and gatherings of all kinds. She was alway s ac tive in church, serving as a Counselor in Relief Society and a visit ing t eacher as long as she lived. She was also President of the Primar y for m any years and a teacher in most auxiliary organizations.
This fine couple became the parents of eight children. Noble, their fi r st born lived only two weeks. This was a real heartbreak for them. Th e n came along Sterling, Howard, Geneva, Arvilla, Leona, Vaun, and Edna . T hese wonderful parents ruled their home with patience, love, underst andin g and faith in God. Always showing an abundance of love to friend s and n eighbors and willing to help anyone in need. They were affection ately kn own as Uncle Will and Aunt Bee.
Elizabeth came in contact with Diphtheria and had a very bad case of i t . She always believed the power of prayer and faith saved her life. S h e never was real well after then but did a beautiful job of taking car e o f her family. She and her fine husband cared for her widowed mothe r fo r many years in their home showing the greatest kindness and love un til h er death.
Elizabeth became very ill and died June 26, 1934 and was buried in the M e adow Cemetery.
William always worked very hard to support his family and at one time w h ile his family were all very young he went to Nevada to work and met wi t h a very serious accident at a sawmill. He got his arm caught in a s a w almost severing it halt way between his elbow and hand. The Drs. wan te d to take his arm off where the cut was but William would not conside r it . The Drs. worked and took care of it the best they could, bindin g it ca refully after sewing it together. They released him saying, “Com e in an d see us in one week”. They were very surprised at the healing t hat ha d taken place. He always said it was his clean living and his fai th in p rayer that saved his arm.
William was ordained a Seventy in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latte-d a y Saints by John Taylor on the 26th day of June 1938. The certificat e wa s signed by J. Golden Kimball, President of the First Seven Presiden ts o f Seventies. He was then called to serve as a Millard Stake Mission ary a nd served in this capacity for many years.
William made his living with his farm, sheep and carrel; also, by freig h ting. He died April, 1947 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law W il lis and Geneva after an illness of several weeks. He was laid to res t be side his beloved Elizabeth in the Meadow Cemetery, April 26, 1947.
He was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren and all who knew h i m.

John Bushnell was born in England in 1823 to John and Elizabeth Colli n s Bushnell. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ o f La tter-day Saints in March of 1851 and immigrated to Utah. He was cal led t o Fillmore by Pres. Brigham Young. Here he met Elizabeth Brockbank , als o an immigrant. She was born in England on Nov 8, 1839, a daughte r of Is aac and Elizabeth Brockbank. She was baptized Sept. 13, 1851 an d came t o Utah in 1852 and settled in Fillmore, Utah.
John and Elizabeth met and fell in love. They were married in Fillmo r e on Aug 15, 1854. They were endowed and sealed on April 4, 1857. Th e y owned the first small grocery store and post office in Fillmore. He r e four sons were born to them. Then one day John heard President Youn g t alk about giving your children something to do, so he sold his busine ss a nd moved to Meadow where he could buy a farm. Here two more sons we re ad ded to the family, then on April 11, 1869 the hearts of John and El izabet h were made happy with the birth of their seventh child and firs t daughte r. They named her Elizabeth. She grew up knowing much hard wo rk for the se were pioneer times and with such a large family everyone ha d to work t o keep the family going. Elizabeth and her younger sister El iza, had t o help herd sheep. They had to carry water long distances fro m the cree k to water the cattle. As they grew older they helped their m other dry f ruit from their large orchard. They carried the buckets of f ruit some di stance and then carried the water to wash the fruit. This f ruit drying p roject was a long hard job because as long as there was fru it on the tree s they dried it so Elizabeth’s brothers could freight it t o distance town s.
Elizabeth attended school in Fillmore and it was here that she contact e d Diphtheria and became very ill. As she kept getting weaker she gre w fr ightened, and putting on her coat she walked down to the home of a f amil y friend, Ted Davis.
He realized how ill she really was and looking at her throat he knew s h e had Diphtheria. He heated some rocks and quilts, bundled her up an d to ok her home to Meadow. After this illness she never fully recovere d he r good health.
She grew into a beautiful and gracious young women. She was blessed wi t h a lovely voice. With this talent she gave much to others by singin g an d giving readings on the different programs of the day.
She met William Hyrum Bennett, son of John Bell and Mary Senior Bennet t , when he came from Payson to Meadow to visit his Uncle, Hyrum Bell Ben ne tt. William and Elizabeth fell in love and were married on Nov. 21, 1 89 4 at the Manti Temple.
They acquired some land and settled I Meadow to make their home.
Elizabeth and William were the parents of eight children, all of them l i ving at the present time except their first son who died when he was a n i nfant.
Elizabeth was a good cook and homemaker. Although she didn’t have a l o t of material things, she took good care of them and made them last a l on g time. She was a beautiful seamstress and had the gift of being abl e t o make her own patterns. She helped her neighbors with their sewin g an d canning. The neighborhood children loved to come to her place bec aus e she always had something for them to eat.
One little niece came often and would say, “Aunt Bee, can I have som e o f your good bread and “perves”?
Elizabeth was chorister and teacher in the auxiliary organizations of t h e church. She was president of the Primary for many years, and in th e pr esidency of the Relief Society. She was always efficient and depend abl e in all she was called to do.
The great love she had for her pioneer mother was shown when, after h e r fathers death she took her mother into her home where she lived for m an y years, cared for with utmost love and affection.
Elizabeth died June 26, 1934. Of the many tributes paid to her at he r f uneral this one is so true of her life. “There was no more beautifu l o r noble woman lived than Libby Bennett, as she was affectionately cal led . She is buried in the Meadow Cemetery.

The hearts of John and Elizabeth (Brockbank) Bushnell were made happy wi t h the birth of their seventh child, their first daughter. They named h e r Elizabeth. She was born in Meadow, Millard county, Utah, 11 Apr 1869 . S he lived under pioneer conditions knowing and experiencing plenty o f har d work and the hardships that went with pioneer life. Her family wa s on e of the first six families to settle in Meadow. She received her ea rly e ducation in the little log one-room school down on the square whic h late r became the tithing yard. The subjects given were reading, writin g, an d arithmetic, then a little history and geography in the upper grad es. Sh e later attended the Millard Stake Academy in Fillmore, Utah and u pon gra duation, helped her family in the sheep business.
Elizabeth adored her father, mother and family. She was of a happy natu r e and could always see the beautiful side of life but was saddened by t h e death of her older brother Isaac. When she was 13 years of age her fa th er passed away leaving her very sad indeed. She grew into a beautiful , gr acious young woman. She was blessed with many lovely talents. A beau tifu l singing voice, a wonderful speaking voice and a marvelous memory f or me morizing very long readings. With these talents she gave much to t o other s by singing and giving readings on the different programs of th e day, en tertaining people in church and gatherings of all kinds.
She was always active in Church, serving as a counselor in Relief Socie t y and a visiting teacher as long as she lived. She was also presiden t o f the Primary for many years and a teacher in most auxiliary organiza tion s. She was chorister for many years as well, always efficient and de penda ble in all she was called to do.
Elizabeth fell in love with and at age 25 married William Hyrum Bennet t , in the Manti LDS Temple on 21 Nov 1894. William was the third son o f Jo hn Bell and Mary (Senior) Bennett of Payson, Utah. He had come to Me ado w to live with and help his Uncle, Hyrum Bell Bennett, who lived neig hbor s to Elizabeth.
This young couple lived a farming life and became the parents of eight c h ildren. Noble, their first born, lived only two weeks. This was a rea l he artbreak for them. Then came along Sterling John. During this same t ime , Utah became the 45th state in the USA. With statehood came an end t o mo st of the problems connected with polygamy.
On 24 Jul 1898 the Bennetts were blessed with another son, Howard Joshu a . He was their “holiday boy”. This small family witnessed the new centu r y begin with all its promise while they still lived the pioneer life wi t h a “two seater” outhouse, coal oil lamps which were washed and prime d on ce a week, flat irons heated on the old stove, and a big copper boil er t o “boil the wash” and “bottle the food”.
Next came three little girls, Geneva, Arvilla, and Leona, to the delig h t of everyone. Also the horseless carriage came along to the amazemen t o f everyone. William and Elizabeth never did own a car.
In 1911, they added another boy, Vaun Mainwaring, and exactly 18 year s t o the day their first baby was born, they added a last little girl, E dna . With seven lively children, Saturday nights at the Bennetts’ wer e a mar athon of baths in the large tub in the kitchen. The tub, filled w ith wate r heated on the stove, was placed in the center of a ring of cha irs. A qu ilt was placed over all so the bather had privacy. Lots of goo d natured f un accompanied this Saturday night ritual.
By 1917 came the terrible “first world war”. Life was never quite the sa m e again. Sterling John, Oldest of the Bennett boys was drafted and pu t th rough basic training. A few weeks before he was to be shipped overse as, t he war ended. He returned to Meadow by bus. What a joyous reunion.
William and the boys were hunters and with luck and skill they provid e d a variety of meat for what had become a large family. William also ma in tained an apple orchard and Elizabeth grew an annual vegetable garden . Th ey stored apples and potatoes in “the pit” for winter use and alon g wit h the regular benefits of their farm such as milk, eggs, chicken, s alt cu red ham, etc., they did not go hungry. Also, they fared well throu gh th e “great flu epidemic of 1918".
Holidays and birthdays were special times for the Bennetts’. The whole t o wn celebrated the 4th and 24th of July, with a parade, games, picnics a n d dancing. The Relief Society made and sold ice cream cones. Elizabet h ma de her unique “raisin pie”, a great favorite of William’s, on specia l occ asions, and her famous fruit cakes for Christmas. They attended th e tow n winter plays in which most family members participated at one tim e or a nother.
These wonderful parents ruled their home with patience, love, understand i ng and faith in god, always showing an abundance of love to friends an d n eighbors and willing to help anyone in need. They were affectionatel y kno wn as Uncle Will and Aunt Bee.
Elizabeth was an excellent cook with a talent for putting things togeth e r to make them nourishing and tasty. She sewed almost everything she a n d her family wore and helped many of her friends, family members and ne ig hbors. She was very ambitious, never wasting time even when she was il l . She would crotchet or piece quilts to keep her hands busy. For many y ea rs, hobos and Indians came through Meadow looking for a “handout”. The y a lways stopped at Elizabeth’s door. She always sent them away with a m eal , either under their belt (if William was home) or in their hand if h e wa s not. One day she inquired of a hobo, why he had come a full bloc k off m ain street to her home to ask for food. He told her that there we re sign s on main street directing fellows like himself to persons who wo uld giv e good food to those in need.
Elizabeth came in contact with diphtheria and had a very bad case of i t . She always believed that the power of prayer and faith saved her lif e . She never was really well after that but did a beautiful job of taki n g care of her family. She and her fine husband cared for her widowed pi on eer mother for many years in their home, showing the greatest kindnes s an d love until her death.
With early Twenty’s, electricity came to Meadow. Such a modern miracle . N ow the family owned and enjoyed a radio as well as a daily newspaper . I n 1920, Howard was wed. The fledglings were beginning to leave the ne st . By the “crash of 29", five of their seven living children, had marri e d and left home.
The “great depression” that followed was not too unkind, although Willi a m often told about not seeing any actual money for a long time. They a l l traded goods and services until the depression eased. During this ti m e Elizabeth became very ill with cancer and died 26 Jun 1934, at age 6 5 .
She was buried in the Meadow Cemetery. Of the many tributes paid her a t h er funeral, this one is so true of her life: “There wa no more beauti fu l or noble woman lived than Libby Bennett”. She was affectionately cal le d Libby.
Following her death, the last two children married and William lived o u t his remaining years spending time with each of his children. He die d i n 1947 and was buried in the Meadow cemetery beside his beloved Eliza beth .

Vaun "M" Bennett, 93, passed away April 5, 2004 in Delta. Born Marc h 2 9 , 1911 in Meadow to William Hyrum and Elizabeth Bushnell Bennett. M arr i e d Phyllis Lyle Talbot in Las Vegas, NV, December 23, 1935. Marria ge s olemnized in Manti Temple, November 13, 1954.

Spent early years in Meadow, attending school there and Fillmore. He l p e d father farming and tending sheep on Meadow Mountain. In 1940, pur ch ased farm in Hinckley, and moved family there. Ran farm, worked for BL M , and did assessment work for Millard County. Later became Range Techni ci an for BLM; retiring after 30 years.

Great horseman; taught sons art of training and working with horses. Lov e d spending time in outdoors with family: fishing, hunting, and horse ra ci ng. Took great pride in his yard, raising vegetables and flowers, incl udi ng prize winning roses.

Faithful member LDS Church, serving various positions. Sang with the Des e rt Sentinels choir several years.

Survived by sons: DeLyle (Annette), Heyburn ID; Gale (Natalie), Hinckle y ; Klynn (Beverly), Rupert, ID; daughter: Beverly (Mervin) Prince, New H ar mony; daughter-in-law: Marilyn, South Jordan; 22 grandchildren. 65 gre at - grandchildren. Two great-great-grand-children. Preceded in death b y wif e: Phyllis; son: Phil; grandchildren: Richard Vaun Day and Kristin e Day ; great-grandchild: Kylie Ivy Turner; three brothers and four siste rs.

A tribute to a very special lady. Our beloved mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Edna Bennett Duncan , p assed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Anna Jo Wayne. Sh e i s now with her eternal companion, Floyd E Duncan, who preceded her i n dea th, 4 October 1994. It will now be their: "O' be Joyful, Day! "Sh e live d a life full of service to others. She served as a Primary teache r for o ver 25 years, stake board member, state registrar, past member Se go Lil y Camp DUP, past member Uintah Chapter DAR.
