    DAVID GREAVES EAMES

    David Greaves Eames was born Sept. 29, 1879 in Logan, Utah, a son of Dav i d
    Cullen Eames and Elizabeth Cluley Greaves. He was the oldest child i n a f amily of five
    boys and four girls.

    His family moved to Preston, Idaho, when he was five years old. He spe n t his
    boyhood on his father's farm north of Preston. He attended the Central S c hool and the
    Oneida Academy in Preston. He also attended the Brigham Young Colleg e i n Logan, Utah.

    He was called on a mission to represent the Latter-day Saint Church on O c t. 13,
    1902. He was sent to the northwestern states and labored in Tacoma, Wash i ngton, and
    British Columbia, Canada. He was the first missionary to represent the P r eston Third
    Ward.

    He married Pearl Geddes of Preston, Idaho, 25 Jan. 1905, in the Logan Te m ple at
    Logan, Utah. They bought a farm two miles northwest of Preston and spe n t their married
    life there.

    He has always been active in scouting. He helped initiate the early orga n ization
    of scouting when It was introduced into Cache Valley. He has been a memb e r of the
    Executive Board, the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Oneida Distric t a nd also Vice
    President. He received the Silver Beaver award in recognition of his out s tanding service
    to boyhood in 1945.

    He has served his church and community in various capacities. He serve d s ixteen
    years as superintendent of the YMMIA of the Oneida Stake. He was superin t endent of
    his ward Sunday School for four years. He was a member of the Bishopri c o f the Preston
    Third Ward for several years. He served as a Stake High Counselor an d a m ember of
    the Genealogical committee for ten years. He served as first counselo r i n the Oneida
    Stake Presidency for ten years when President Taylor Nelson was presiden t . He was
    made a Stake Patriarch in the Oneida Stake in 1939 .

    He represented Franklin County twice in the Idaho State Senate and was P r obate
    Judge in Preston for two years. He was a trustee of the Preston school b o ard for twelve
    years.

    The spirit of the gospel has always been in our home ,
    People who have come here to visit have felt this spirit and commented a b out it.

    I have always had such profound respect for my father and I am so very p r oud of
    him. I am truly thankful for the good name he and Mother gave me and I h o pe to merit
    their association in the eternities .

When Grandma and Grandpa Bullock got married, he gave the m a g reen book with the words budget written across the front. He taugh t the m how to budget their money. He told Grandpa once to save until yo u had d ouble the money you needed to buy something. That way you could b uy it an d still have the same about of money saved that you spent.

She graduated from Preston High Schoo l an d then attended Utah State University, graduating in June 1935 wit h a B . S. degree and a teaching major in secondary education. She worke d two y ears and then married Rufus Ridddlesbarger, Through his busines s interes ts they traveled extensively in the United States, Hawaii, an d Central Am erica.
    Roberta married Layne L. Daily November 1, 1951. He had served in t h e United States Army during World War II, and after became a contracto r a nd builder. Roberta and Wayne purchased a cattle ranch in Hamilton, M onta na, and built a home there.They buil t a second home in Arizona an d often spent the winters there, avoiding Mo ntana's bitter cold. Robert a has always been very generous. She sent on e sister to the University o f Arizona for two and a half years, helped fi nance Ruby's mission in Fin land, and was always concerned her father an d mother had the things the y needed.     This is a copy of a journal I started years ago and when a bishop t o l d m e that I should do it. He suggested I do it, before he gave me re co m men d for the temple. I’m Venice Eames Conrad. Geddes was left ou t o f m y bi rth certificate, somehow. I was born April 23, 1915 in Prest on , Ida ho. In May, 1941, Rielly Daniel Conrad asked me for a date a s a tha nk y o u gesture. We had a pleasant evening, so we continued to s ee eac h othe r. He was a tall blond young man with incredible blue eye s from Se attl e, Washington. We are both in San Francisco Bay, area work ing for th e A rm y. He was stationed on the north side of the Golden Gat e Bridg e a s a fir st lieutenant at Fort Cronkrite for one year’s activ e duty . A s a newly c ommissioned second lieutenant I was a nurse at th e Presid io a t Letterman' s General Hospital on the south end of the bea utiful br idge. We enjoye d dancing, movies, sightseeing rides out in th e country a n d just being to gether. Rielly was and is a sweet man in s o many ways . He was an only c hild and missed his home very much. It see med he tal k ed of marriage so m uch, I wondered if he could be sincere s o soon . A s a middle Child in a f amily of nine children, I wasn't sure , even a t 2 6 years, I was Ready to s ettle down. He was about two year s older an d v ery persistent. He was fr om a city while I grew up in a s mall town o f P reston, Idaho in the nort h end of the lovely valley an d surrounded b y mo untains. We didn’t know e ach others folks. He ha d a strong Christia n u pbringing, but no formal re ligion. For 17 year s I had a rather ster n LD S training. Now I was inact ive. Rielly’s lov e and caring was just w ha t I needed to change my life. On November 20 , 1941, we were marrie d i n Reno, Nevada. We had a beaut iful trip plann ed in the Southwest. W e w ere still on our honeymoon whe n Pearl Harbo r was announced over th e radi o. We were in Phoenix, Arizona. This was D ecember, the seventh, 19 41, of course. His leave was cancele d, and we r eturned to San Francisc o an d almost three more years of Army l ife.

    Geddes Eames and David G. Eames. Her childhood was a happy one spent wi t h her
    family on the farm in Preston, Idaho .

    She was graduated from Preston High School In 1937, She attended the U.S . A.C. at Logan, Utah and received her B.S. degree in 1941 with a majo r i n child development and elementary education. She attended Merrill Pa lme r School in Detroit, Michigan the spring quarter of her senior year a t co llege. Her first teaching assignment was the second grade in Cedar C ity , Utah, for one year. She was head teacher in the child care center s in S alt Lake City, Seattle and San Francisco for five years. She was g uidanc e teacher at the University of Utah nursery school for one year .

    She wanted to go overseas with the Red Cross during the war and receiv e d an assignment as overseas staff assistant to go to England in 1945. S h e was sent to Washington, D. C. to attend a school before leaving and t h e war ended, so the class she was scheduled to go with was cancelled .

    She has been active In church work all her life. She graduated from Prim a ry and seminary and was play leader in the Primary organization when s h e attended high school. She has taught classes in Primary, Mutual or Su nd ay School nearly continuously since she finished college. She taught t h e teacher training class In the Preston Third War d
    Sunday School . She was coordinator of the Junior Sunday School at Ame s , Iowa while attending school there in 1955. She served as a stake miss io nary in the San Francisco Stake for nearly two years in 1947 and 1948 . Sh e was called on a foreign mission to Finland in 1949. She and her co mpani on Merle Lloyd were the first two lady missionaries ever assigned t o Finl and. It was a very challenging and spiritual experience. She toure d fifte en different countries on her way home from her mission .

    She was a graduate assistant at Iowa State College while working for h e r Master's degree She received her Master's degree in child developmen t i n August 1955 from the Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. She is an As sist ant Professor in the department of Family Living and Child Developme nt an d Supervisor of the Child Development Laboratory at Utah State Univ ersit y at Logan, Utah, where she has taught for the past four years .

    She has done temple work since she returned from her mission and she hel p s record sealings once a week at the Logan Temple. She has enjoyed th e co mpanionship of her parents, brothers and sisters and their children . Th e past few years she has traveled with her parents to visit the diff eren t temples and to visit with members of her family .
    This summer she plans to attend the University of Honolulu and to do tem p le work in the Hawaiian Temple.

    Notes:

    Garth Geddes Eames, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-gran d father, brother and friend, passed away the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 1 3 , 2011, at home.

    He was born May 10, 1927, to David Greaves and Pearl Lorena Geddes Eam e s in Preston, Idaho, the last of nine children. He graduated from Prest o n High School in 1945 and joined the Merchant Marines. Later, he enlist e d in the U.S. Army Air force and was stationed on Okinawa. He was call e d on a mission to England, where he came to love the country and its pe op le. Returning to Preston, he met Shirley Rae Robinson, and they were m arr ied in the Logan Temple on April 4, 1951. In 1954, on a Veteran's Hom este ad Draw, they moved to Rupert, Idaho, to farm. With sheer determinat ion a nd pioneer fortitude, they cleared sagebrush, dug ditches and succe eded i n making their dream a reality.

    He found great joy serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day S a ints as bishop, stake president, patriarch and many other callings. H e lo ved Scouting, was active in the Snake River Council and was honore d to re ceive the Silver Beaver Award. He blessed many lives through miss ionary w ork. He and Shirley served a mission in Charleston, W.Va. She be came il l and passed away in 1984. In 1987, he married Edna Lou Harper-Sm ith in t he Los Angeles Temple, and they served additional missions to Bo ise, Idah o; Spokane, Wash.; and Adelaide, Australia.Garth Eames was a ma n of faith . He will be remembered for his fine example of service, love , a soft spo ken voice, good humor and obedience.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; three brothe r s; and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Edna Lou H. Eames; hi s s ister, Dora Deane Hall; children, LaRue McKenzie (Benton) of Idaho, C hris tine Beach (Wade) of Virginia, Jill Lloyd (Barry) of Utah, Tim Eame s (Car i) of Idaho, Donald Harper-Smith (Jeni) of Arizona, John Harper Sm ith (Ra eLynne) of Utah, Melanie Ysasaga (Michael) of California, Kelly M cGuire ( Doug) of Washington, Teresa Pesci (Giancarlo) of Nevada and Step hanie Lan gi (Jake) of Texas; 41 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildre n.
