    Phyllis was born on October 10, 1917 in Lehi, Utah to Dennis and Rhoda W i nifred (Winnie) Thomas Giles. The family moved to Los Angeles when Phyl li s was 8 years old; Phyllis attended schools and the LDS Church in Hunt ing ton Park, CA.

    On October 10 (her 21st birthday), 1938, Phyllis married her eternal swe e theart, Russell Vincent Peterson, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had be e n married 62 years when he passed away (2001).

    Russell and Phyllis spent many years in the Los Angeles area, where th e y raised their 6 children (Judy, Jeannie, Jan, Julie, Russell and Rita ) . After moving back and forth between California and Utah for almos t a de cade, Russell and Phyllis moved to Utah permanently. They reside d in Prov o until they built their home (which Phyllis designed) in Orem.

    Phyllis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-d a y Saints. She served in many positions (including Relief Society Presid en t, Primary President, faithful Visiting Teacher). She had a strong an d vi brant testimony of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Phyllis and her husb and s erved in the Singapore Mission from 1984-85. They were blessed to s hare t he Gospel in Singapore, India, Indonesia and Malaysia .

    Phyllis loved BYU Athletics, especially BYU Football. She was honored a n d pleased to be a Thursday's Hero and, thereby, an honorary part of th e B YU Football program. She will always be remembered for her famous gam e ch eer for the players to "Go around the end!" She revered Bronco Mende nhal l and the team; they often referred to her as the "Matriarch of th e team. " Go Cougars!

    Phyllis was a loving, patient and kind mother, grandmother and great-gra n dmother. She tended and loved her grandchildren, and they all adored he r . She was fun, sweet, good-natured, and always cheerful. She had the mo s t amazing sense of humor and laughed easily. She also helped tend her g ra ndchildren and great-grandchildren as long as she was able (and volunt eer ed to tend them even up until the time of her death). She sewed for h er c hildren and home, she crocheted an afghan for each grandchild's wedd ing , and she was an amazing cook. She was known for her potato salad, pi es , and roast beef dinners. All who knew Phyllis loved her; she was know n a s "Grandma Pete" to everyone. She provided suckers (along with a smil e) t o all the children who visited as well as all those who just knocke d on h er door.

    Phyllis was an elect woman who possessed the gift of charity. She love d e veryone and was totally without guile. She was always gracious and gr atef ul to anyone who visited or helped her in any way. She was caring, t hough tful, talented, devoted, serving, and happy. No words can express h ow muc h she was loved and how much she will be missed by so many .

    Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her h u sband Russell, a son-in-law, two grandchildren and one great-grandson . Sh e is survived by her children Judy (Johns ) [Lindon] , Jeannie (LaVo rn) Sparks [Sundance], Jan (Bruce) Christensen [St. George ], Julie (Robe rt) Deucher [Orem], Russ (Colleen) Peterson [Orem], and Rit a (Taylor) [S pringville]; 34 of her 36 grandchildren; and 117 of her 11 8 great-grandc hildren.

    The family is especially grateful for family members and neighbors (it t o ok a village of them) who gave of their time and love to keep Mom/Grand m a in her own home these last several years. The family wants to especia ll y thank Carolina Espinosa for her angelic and tender care of Mom/Grand ma , as well as Barbara Metaxas, Emilee Bird, and Carrol Grudzinski. We a ls o thank many other employees of Envision Home Health and Hospice, as w el l as the many doctors who cared for her. She truly loved and appreciat e d all of you.

    A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 6 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Wal k er Sanderson Mortuary located at 646 East 800 North in Orem. Services w il l be held Monday, March 7 in the Aspen Stake Center (985 West 2000 Nor th , Orem) at 11:00 am, with a viewing prior beginning at 9:30 am. Interm en t will be in the Santaquin City Cemetery.

    Phyllis married Russell Vincent "Grandpa Pete" Peterson on 10 Oct 1938 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. Russell (son of Peter Engelbret Peterson and Julia Elvira Olsen) was born on 6 Dec 1914 in Santaquin, Utah, Utah, United States; died on 7 Jan 2001 in Orem, Utah, Utah, United States; was buried in Santaquin City Cemetery, Utah, Utah, United States.
