I found this when I was going through my dad's computer files. He was be g inning to make a book about his life stories. This is what he had so fa r:

    Dedication

My Life was inspired by my daughter Brinley Nicole Labrum who kindly enc o uraged me to document the stories of my life .

    Introduction

I didn’t comprehend just how precious life is until my newly born daught e r entered the world on March 20th, 1993, screaming at the top of her lu ng s. She was obviously in a lot of pain and it tore at my heart. Desper at e to comfort her I reached out my pinky finger to her tiny little hand . S uddenly, her little fingers clenched onto my pinky and her screamin g ease d, and then stopped altogether. It was as if grasping my little f inger g ave her instant security and comfort. At that moment my heart wa s melde d to hers. Brinley Nicole Labrum had me hooked for life.

My comprehension expanded as my brother-in-law Clayton Allred passed aw a y at age 48 with cancer, followed by his son David at age 32 with melan om a. David left behind his wife and three young children, but before h e lef t, he made sure he left his family with some incredible memories . At hi s funeral a DVD, set to the music of xxxxx “Live Life Like You a re Dying” , played sharing those life experiences .

Full comprehension of how precious life is came the xxfall of xxx, an d i t came in a very personal and painful way. It started when I receiv e d a phone call from my brother Lynn. He said something like “John, I do n’ t know how to say this, so I’m just going to say it. I have cancer an d th ey have given me six months to live”. A year later, I found mysel f onc e again fishing for salmon in Washington State with Lynn. This tim e Lynn , determined to make some lasting memories, brought his son Tyso n with us .

It had been almost four years since that dreadful call. During those ye a rs, I praying fervently for Lynn to be healed, or cured, but this visi t w as different. As I walked into the room, I couldn’t believe my eyes . I t took me so off guard that I couldn’t hold back my tears. My prayer s cha nged that day. Now I was pleading for a quick release from his suff ering . Three days later I got the call at work to get there as soon a s possib le. Early in the morning hours Lynn took his final breaths in t his morta l life.

As I have thought back over the experiences of my life, the realizatio n h as come to me that even the grandest of experiences, the most life ch angi ng experiences, fade over time and I struggle to recall the detail s and t he feelings I had at that moment in time.

My hope is that My Life will preserve some of those feelings and memori e s for myself to remember and draw strength from and for my wife, childr en , and future posterity to experience in some small way the stories tha t h ave shaped me into the person I am.
