Both Mar y Eli zabeth and Charles Roy died in an auto accident in 1972. After Raym ond pa ssed away, his son Charles Elias Disney adopted Cristian Petrea th e son o f longtime family friends and his name became Cristian Petrea Dis ney. Sad ly, Cristian passed awy on May 10, 2018 as the result of cardiom egaly.
Raymond owned his own very successful insurance business for over forty- f ive years on North Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles, California. He handl e d most of the insurance for his brothers Walt and Roy and for their ori gi nal Disney Bros. Studio in 1923 and later for Walt Disney Production s i n Burbank. Raymond was a close confidant and he advised brothers Wal t an d Roy throughout their lives and especially in the early years of Di sne y Bros. Studio and Walt Disney Productions. He really enjoyed spendin g mu ch time with his brothers as they originally established what was t o beco me the vast Disney Entertainment Enterprises, now known as The Wal t Disne y Company.
Raymond like his brother Walt, also greatly admired Abraham Lincoln an d h e worked alongside his brother Walt when the "Great Moments With Mr . Linc oln" exhibit was created for the Illinois Pavilion for the 1964/19 65 Ne w York World's Fair and later in 1965 was moved to Disneyland in An aheim , California. Today Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is an element o f the D isneyland attraction "The Disneyland Story" presenting Great Mome nts wit h Mr. Lincoln, which opened in 2009 .
Raymond had an uncanny sense about dates and numbers! Raymond was great l y saddened when each one of his brothers passed away respectively, an d h e deeply missed them for the rest of his own life. Walt and Roy wer e bot h younger than Ray.
Raymond served in the U. S. Army during World War I. He was an active me m ber of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Los Ange le s.
Early in life Raymond was a bank teller in Kansas City, Missouri at th e S outhwest National Bank of Commerce and the First National Bank at 10 t h & Baltimore Avenue in downtown Kansas City, the same bank where his b ro ther Roy Oliver Disney also worked. Today, this bank building remain s an d is the Central Library of Kansas City. He always had a "soft spot " fo r Kansas City and would visit there many times across his lifetime.
Raymond was a member of St. Augustine by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in San t a Monica. He funded a large most beautiful and quite spectacular flowe r g arden for many years that was so prominent in the churchyard filled w it h so many native blooming flowers for each season.
He was a very kind and generous gentleman! Ray had a wonderful sense o f h umor and enjoyed making people happy. Raymond loved cats and dogs an d wou ld always help strays find homes (often in his own home) that seeme d to f ind their way to his door! He made very generous donations to loca l anima l shelters for many years.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Los Angeles. H e wa s a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and he participated in Th e Boo k of the Play. He was so proud of the fact that he enjoyed a person al mee ting with Frank S. Land, the founder of the International Order o f DeMola y with headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. Ray bequeathed a v ery consi derable amount of his large estate to the Shriner's Hospital fo r Cripple d children in Los Angeles and the Shriner's children's Burn Hos pital in G alveston, Texas.
Raymond was 98 when he passed from this life on Wednesday, May 24, 198 9 a t his home in Santa Monica, California, with his son Charles Elias Di sne y at his side.
Raymond's funeral service was held in the Little Church of the Flower s i n Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, CA on Saturday, May 27, 1989 . His remains were then entombed in the Fre edom M ausoleum in the Sanctuary of Prayer Room close to the garden wher e Walt a nd Lillian and other family members ashes are entombed. Everythi ng at For est Lawn, as usual, was so beautiful and quite uplifting for th e family a nd friends!
