"There is confusion as to when John Junior was christened. John Whipp l e Junior was christened on 1 November 1641. His mother Sarah 'Goodwif e Wh ipple,' which was one of the lowest social class designations, was a dmitt ed to the Dorchesteurch 29 October 1641. Because only children of c hurc h members could be christened/baptized, John Junior, who was over tw o yea rs old by then, was finally permitted to receive the sacrament 3 da ys lat er. Their second Child was christened three months later. It is no t know n why Sarah was so tardy in becoming a member of the church. Recor ds of t he 1st chuch of Dorchester 1636-1743, page 6"

SOURCE: Email from Charles M. Whipple Jr. to Weldon Whipple, 26 Jan 200 5 . Charles writes the following regarding John's birth:
The best source for the (Nov. 1) date for John is Robert C. Anderson , T he Great Migration Begins, Immigrants to New England, 1620-1633 (Bost on : NEHGS, 1995) 1972-3. The date of his birth was "3 days after his mot her 's baptism," she beiaptized 29 Oct 1641. Records of the First Churc h at D orchester, 1636- 1734, lists his birth as "9-1-41". This Translate s fro m the old Puritan calendar to Nov. 1.

Town Council. 7 Jan 1701. Rebeckah Whipple presented a paper said to b e t he Last Will & Testament of her deceased husband John Whipple (John W hipp le was blind). Witnessed by James Angell, Joseph Whipple, Richard Wa terma n, James Browne. Angell, Whipple & Waterman were all examined separ atel y and all agreed they had signed the document but it had been folde d an d they did not know what it contained. Capt. James Browne did not ap pea r before the Council. John whipple, son & heir apparent made objectio n t o the Will. Time granted Rebeckah for consideration.
11 Mar 1701. Capt. John Browne of Swansey appeared before the Council a n d stated that the paper in question was the same as one he had writte n a t the request of John Whipple but at the time it was signed & seale d it w as read in the presence of the witnesses.
8 Apr 1701. Council decided the Will had not been read to John Whippl e i n the presence of witnesses and may have been under constraints and s houl d be declared invalid. John Hartshorne and William Hoare both testif ied t hat John Whipple had perhaps disinherited his only son against hi w ill, s ince he was helpless and blind and at the mercy of others.
John Whipple died intestate, 15 Dec 1700, and the estate had to be settl e d by the town council. The decision was to give John Whipple, son and h ei r, the dwelling and the house lot and the lands and meadows in the Tow nsh ip of Prividence - widow Rebekah was to resign possession. Mary Car der an d Elnathan Rice received the lands and commons on the west side o f the Se ven Mile line. John had to pay his "mother in law" 10 pounds. On e third o f he moveable estate, after paying any debts, was to belong th e widow. Al l remaining part of the Estate to be divided in 5 parts amon g the childre n. 22 April 1701.
