- Obituary:
Marvin Waley passed away on April 20, 2009 at Hospice House in Spokane W A . He was born at home in Seattle WA on September 4, 1921, the sixth so n o f William and Ida Congdon Waley.
Marv completed high school and attended the University of Washington o n t he GI Bill after serving in the US Army with the 45th Infantry Divisi on a s a medical aid man from 1940 to 1945 in campaigns in Australia an d New G uinea. Marv worked as an artist and draftsman for many architectu ral, man ufacturing and aerospace firms in California and Washington befo re retiri ng in 1982 and devoting his time to his interests in photograph y, gourme t cooking, pencil and pen and ink drawing, and community theatr e .
Beginning in the 1950's with the prestigious Santa Monica Theatre Guil d a nd other groups in California and continuing at the Driftwood Player s an d many groups in the Seattle area, Marv acted, directed, designed an d pro duced numerous plays. Here in Spokane he appeared at Spokane Civi c Theatr e and with other groups and was a founding member of Rogue Playe rs whic h played at the West Central Community Center from 1988 to 1996 .
Marv was married in 1953 to Rosemary Beckley and they had three childre n . Marv is survived by his second wife, Janis Clarke Waley at home, so n Co le Waley of Auburn WA, daughters Rebecca Byrne of New Market AL an d Valer ie Waley of Spokane WA, grandson Colby Waley of Puyallup WA, an d granddau ghter Lisa Byrne of Anchorage AK.
A celebration of Marv's life will be held on Saturday, May 30, at the R e d Lion Hotel at the Park, Skyline Ballroom at 2:00 pm. All who knew Ma r v are welcome to attend.
