- Obituary:
Richard LaVar Whipple, 76, Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away in his ho m e on April 19, 1999 surrounded by his family, after a courageous battl e w ith cancer.
Richard was born on April 27, 1922 in Roosevelt, Utah, the third chil d o f Dewey Albert Whipple and Jennie Smith. Married Loa Mildred Richard s o n March 23, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were sealed in the Salt L ak e Temple on March 20, 1950. Served in the Navy during World War II i n th e SeeBees. Upon his return, attended the University of Utah and in 1 947 , founded the Richard Whipple Plumbing and Heating Company. In busine ss , he was respected for his Honesty, Integrity and the Craftsmanship o f hi s work.
He was a devoted Husband and Father. His devotion to his Family and th e C hurch are shown in every aspect of his life. His love for the Lord wa s ma nifest in his service in the Church where he served four missions, i nclud ing two stake missions, a calling with his wife to the Peoria Illin ois Mi ssion and 15 months with the Family to Family Book of Mormon Progr am. H e also served in various positions ranging from Nursery Leader to h is ser vice in the Bishopric of the 29th Ward and two terms on the High C ounci l of the Salt Lake Riverside Stake. Much of his service was with th e yout h, where his influence was felt in many aspects of their lives. H e love d life and all of Gods creations.
He enjoyed Traveling, Photography, Painting, Pottery, Scuba Diving, Ball r oom Dancing, Wood Working, Skiing, Hiking, Backpacking, Geology, Bird W at ching and Botany, and sharing his knowledge of these things with his n in e children, 31 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren as well a s sco uts, youth, and anyone willing to join him on his excursions.
Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred, daughters, Diann e D alton, Karen (Dave) Suisse, Linda (Bryan) Drake, and Bonnie Whipple , an d sons, Michael, Arlyn, Kent (Janele), Mark (Joni), Gary (Cindy), 3 1 gran dchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at 11 a.m. at t h e Salt Lake Riverside Stake Center, 1100 West, 500 North. Friends and f am ily may call Tuesday evening at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East Temple, fro m 6 - 8 p.m. and at the Stake Center Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Inte rmen t, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
