Kenneth Keith Kunz (89) passed away October 16, 2012 in Salt Lake City . H e was born in Bern, Idaho October 24, 1922 to Alvin N. and Amy M. Kun z. H e married the love, joy, and inspiration of his life Laura Jackson o n Oct ober 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They recently celebrate d thei r 70th Wedding Anniversary.
Ken graduated in 1940 from Bear Lake High School, Montpelier, Idaho. H e a ttended USU, Logan, Utah. Ken spent three years working for Lockhee d in L os Angeles, California. He served in the US Army during WWII, the n worke d for the V.A. in Salt Lake.
A self-studied professional he worked as a draftsman in several local ar c hitectural firms for 14 years. He passed the Utah State Architect Exa m be coming a Licensed Professional Architect in 1961. He was privilege d to se rve for nearly 27 years as a Staff Architect and Administrator fo r The Ch urch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first five year s were as N orthwest Area Architect. The next 22 years were spent in th e Temples an d Special Projects Division. He worked on projects throughou t the world , retiring in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, his nine children, 53 grandchildren a n d 95 great-grandchildren. Sons: Clyde (Claudia), Keith (Katherine), Dwi gh t (Milly), Garth (Susanne); and Daughters: Calleen (Kim) Martindale, J ann a Kunz, Brenda (Lindsi) Canevari, Lorraine (Halston) Davis, Marnae (B ill ) Hammond.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Foster M. & DeVirl A. (Bud ) K unz; and sister Merlyn K. Jensen.
Ken has a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His Gospel . H e spent his entire lifetime in dedicated service to the LDS Church. H e se rved as: Ward Financial Clerk, Scoutmaster, Bishop of the10th Ward i n th e Park Stake and Stake High Council member. He served in the Bonnevi lle S take Yale 1st Ward as Sunday School President, High Priest Group Le ader a nd Home teacher. He did family history work after his retirement.
Kenneth loved the Lord, his wife, his family and his fellowmen. He appre c iated life and was privileged to experience the joy of hard work, servi c e and accomplishment. This legacy was given to his children. One of hi s g reat desires was that his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildre n, t heir wives and husbands would always be nice to each other.
On Tuesday, October 23rd, a viewing will be held from 6:00 pm 8:00 p m a t Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah. A funer al s ervice will be held on his 90th birthday, October 24, 2012 from 11:0 0 a m to 12:00 noon at the Bonneville Stake Center, 1535 E Bonneview Driv e (1 050 S), SLC, UT with a viewing prior to the service from 10:00-10:4 5 am . Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery, 5600 S Vine Stree t (73 0 E), Murray, Utah.
