- Obituary:
Laura Jackson Kunz, 92, passed away on September 12, 2014 in Salt Lake C i ty of causes incident to age.
She was born in Salt Lake City on September 7, 1922 to Samuel Andrew a n d Annie Iretta Woolley Jackson. She was the eleventh of twelve children .
Laura was raised in the Salt Lake Valley, graduating from East High Scho o l, and received her nurses' training at the LDS Hospital, University o f U tah Nursing Program in Salt Lake City.
She married Kenneth K. Kunz on October 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temp l e. The officiator was Harold B. Lee. In 2012, Kenneth and Laura celebra te d their seventieth wedding anniversary together and Kenneth passed awa y s hortly thereafter. Together, they raised their family of nine childre n be ginning in Southern California. In 1944, they moved to Salt Lake Cit y, wh ere they lived in the Tenth Ward and then the Yale Ward.
Laura was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da y S aints and held many teaching and leadership positions in the Relief S ocie ty and also the Cub Scout program. She served with great love and ki ndnes s.
As she raised her nine children, there was always fresh baked bread an d c innamon rolls in the oven. Every fall, she would can peaches, pears , apri cots, and tomatoes by the bushel. She was an accomplished seamstre ss an d loved to quilt and sew temple clothing and quilts for friends an d famil y members.
She was an active member of the International Society of Daughters of Ut a h Pioneers. She enjoyed participating in the ISDUP functions and was ho no red to have that be a part of her heritage.
Laura leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, sacrifice, and love.
Laura loved the Lord, her husband, and her family. She appreciated lif e a nd was privileged to experience the joy of hard work and accomplishme nt . She gave each of her children the gift of music as well as teachin g the m to value education. Her legacy has been given to her children, gr andchi ldren, and great-grandchildren. She instilled in their souls the i mportan ce of the words 'Carry On.'
We honor and love you cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmo t her, and friend and we will Carry On.
Laura is survived by her nine children, fifty-three grandchildren, and 1 0 9 great-grandchildren. Sons: Clyde (Claudia), Keith (Katherine), Dwigh t ( Milly), and Garth (Susanne); daughters: Calleen (Kim) Martindale, Jan na K unz, Brenda (Lindsi) Canevari, Lorraine (Halston) Davis, and Marna e (Bill ) Hammond; and sister: Esther (Earl) Wallace.
On Friday, September 19, 2014, a viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p. m . at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murra y . A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11: 0 0 a.m. in the Yale Ward Chapel, 1431 East Gilmer Drive, Salt Lake City , w ith a viewing prior to the services from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street (7 3 0 East), Murray.
