Joyce J. Bushnell 12/23/20 ~ 12/25/05 Joyce J. Bushnell, 85, passed aw a y 25 December 2005 in Fillmore, Utah. She was born in Holden, Utah, 2 3 De cember 1920 to Thaddeus Orson and Neva Nixon Johnson. She married Fa ryl G . Bushnell 4 May 1942 in her parents’ home. The marriage was late r seale d in the Manti Temple.
As the consummate homemaker, she was known for delicious food grown in h e r own garden, a clean and orderly home where everything had its place , an d clothing sewn with precision and style. Mother felt very strongl y tha t everyone should be as well educated as possible. Upon her own hig h scho ol graduation, she attended Brigham Young Academy for three year s at a ti me when very few women had that opportunity. Throughout her lif e, she rem ained a lifelong learner and made sure her children and grandc hildren wer e encouraged to seek educational opportunities of every kind.
After her husband's death in 1960, Mother began a 27 year career at Mill a rd High School as an administrative secretary to four principals. In 19 77 , she was honored as the Outstanding School Secretary for the State o f Ut ah. Mother was a charter member of the Old Capitol Quilt Guild wher e sh e enjoyed sharing her skills and encouraging younger quilters. Her q uilt s and quilted projects received numerous awards a t the county fair . Sh e and her daughters enjoyed much comradery as they combined their qu iltin g talent for family members. Gardening was her second love where sh e enjo yed the companionship of her son, Dwight, as they turned the famil y garde ning plot into a beautiful landscaped floral display. Mother's se rvice i n the Fillmore 1st Ward LDS Church was long and varied. She share d her lo ve of education and her training in organization in m any callin gs. She a nd her neighbor, Beth Cahoon, were devoted visiting teaching pa rtners fo r many years. She shared both letter writing and financial supp ort with h er missionary grandchildren. Joyce was blessed with wonderfu l neighbors w ho lovingly cared for her throughout her later years. Her f amily wishes t o extend heartfelt gratitude for their many kindnesses.
Mother is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Haynes R. Fuller (Pat) of Ede n , Utah, Mrs. James H. Quigley (Bonnie) of New Canaan, Connecticut; daug ht er-in-law, Mrs. Dwight J. Bushnell (Bobette) of Philomath, Oregon; 1 0 gra ndchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Don S . Brim h all (Dawnie) of Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Jim Chrz (Sharon) of Nampa, Id aho, Mrs . Lewis Monsen (Janet) of Holden, Utah. She was preceded in deat h by he r husband, Faryl G. Bushnell; and her son, Dwight J. Bushnell. Se rvices w ill be held at the Fillmore 1st Ward Building at 11 a.m. Wednesd ay, 28 De cember 2005. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:4 5 a.m. In li eu of flowers, contributions may be made to IHC Home Care, F illmore Commu nity Hospital, Fillmore, UT, 8 4631
