BIOGRAPHY: "She was a ... religious enthusiast. ... Having listened to t h e distinguished George Whitfield, when he preached in Attleboro, Mass. , s he was seriously impressed, and deeply convicted of sin; and while th us l aboring under great concern of mind, she was seized with a malignan t feve r which was raging throughout Providence Co., and after a long con finemen t she arose from her bed, suddenly recovered, declaring she ha d a missio n to perform. She immediately commenced preaching publicly, an d from hous e to house, claiming as some say, supernatural power, being a ble to disce rn what was transpiring in distant places, &c., which woul d now be attrib uted to claravoyance [sic], and would in no wise subjec t a person to a ch arge of blasphemy.
