- Obituary:
Salt Lake businessman and civic leader Soren Morgan Sorensen died Saturd a y, Sept. 9, 1989, in a traffic accident. He was 77.
Mr. Sorensen, a native of Ephraim, was co-owner of South East Furnitur e C o. in Sugar House where he worked for more than 50 years as vice pres iden t and erchandise manager. His expertise in merchandising, marketin g and c onsumer preference was recognized nationally by the furniture ind ustry. H e served as president of the Utah Furniture Association, the Uta h Retai l Merchants Association and the Utah Council of Retailers, and wa s name d Utah Furniture Retailer of the Year.
Nationally, he served as senior vice president of the National Home Furn i shing Association and served on the board of directors for several year s . He was also a consultant to national furniture manufacturers.
Mr. Sorensen also served on the Board of Governors of the Salt Lake Ar e a Chamber of Commerce and was a board member of the Salt Lake Area Unit e d Fund. He also was a charter member of the Sugar House Kiwanis Club a n d served on the board of the Utah Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The Sorensen family will receive visitors Wednesday, 7-9 p.m., at 520 Ma n -O-War Road in Bloomington, Washington County.
The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 15, at noon in the Larkin Mortuary Cha p el, 260 E. South Temple. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
