SOURCE: Reprint of the "Brown genealogy of 1851," submitted to the Whipp l e Website by Ian Mackie, 20 Oct 2003. "In his will, made February 10, 1 72 4, (codicil August 2, 1734), he [John Smith] entrusted to the care o f hi s wife, Hannah, the 'Two small children Hannah and Prince'. His olde r chi ldren had long since been married. His granddaughter Martha Smith e ightee n years of age, had married a month previous to his death. It is , therefo re, believed that Hannah was a second wife, but of this no proo f is know n to exist, and no conjecture has been made as to the name of t he first w ife. Hannah survived her husband twenty-two years and in her w ill, prove d September 29, 1757, gave her estate to 'son Prince and daugh ter Hannah' , making no mention of the older children."
