Joseph Merrill Bushnell 1920 ~ 2009 Joseph Merrill Bushnell, age 89, pas s ed away on September 18, 2009 in Provo, Utah. He was born on June 19, 1 92 0 in Meadow, Utah son of Daniel D. and Melba Stott Bushnel l. Merril l gra duated from Millard High where he served as student body president . He se rved a mission for the LDS Church in the Spanish American Missio n and ser ved in the Air Force in World War II. Merrill married Lucille B ooth Jun e 5, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He earned a Bachelor degree in Economics from BYU and a Masters of Busin e ss Administration from Stanford University. Merrill was the Vice Presid en t of Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe for 17 years, retiring in 1984. H e wa s an adjunct professor at BYU and helped develop the Masters of Engi neeri ng Management Program. Highlights of his community service include d Presi dent of Kiwanis and President of BSA Utah National Parks Council . He wa s on several boards of directors including Regional Mountain Bel l and Fir st Security Bank. He was the Utah Businessman of the year in 19 82. He ser ved in many church callings including Priest Advisor, Stake Pr esident an d President of the Dallas Texas Mission. Lucille preceded hi m in death o n April 25, 1997 after 51 wonderful years of marriage. Merri ll was blesse d to marry Ann Halgren Wiest on April 11, 1998. Merrill's g reatest joy wa s his family. He loved nature, music, books, sports and tr avel. He wa s a man of balance. He is survived by his wife, of Provo; chi ldren: Bruc e Bushnell (Karie); Ned Bushnell (Marianne); Pamela Price (Da vid); Annett e Perry (Ron); Doug Wiest (Cheri); Gary Wiest (Sharon); Mar k Wiest (Dana) ; Steven Wiest (Melissa); 44 grandchildren; 18 great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held at 11:0 0 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2 3 , 2009 at the Pleasant View 6th Ward, 2445 North 650 East, Provo. Frien d s may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, on Tu es day evening 6-8 p.m. or at the Ward Chapel on Wednesday 9:30-10:40 a.m . I nterment Eastlawn Memorial Hills. In lieu of flowers contributions ma y b e made to the Perpetual Education Fund.
