| Notes |
- William Clayton Partridge was born October 2, 1862 at Farmington Davis C o unty, Utah, to Edward Partridge Jr. and Sarah Lucretia Clayton. He wa s th e third Child born in a family of eight children. He was, as I hav e hear d say, just a rough and Ready Mormon boy. He was called to fil l a missio n to the Hawaiian Islands when he was still in his teens. Hi s father befo re him had served as the President of this mission. His tes timony of th e gospel was indeed strengthened and grew during these years . He used t o tell of these wonderful experiences, and vivid answers to h is fervent p rayers. I remember he and his wife, Sarah Jane Stott, kep t a coconut on t he floor by the front door of their home in Cowley, Wyom ing, a keepsake f rom his missionary years in Hawaii.
He answered a call to colonize the Big Horn basin in Wyoming in the ye a r 1900. Taking his wife, Sarah Jane Stott, and his three children, he s et tled in Cowley and became its first bishop. Later he became the Presid en t of the stake and in later life was very active in genealogical work.
He passed away May 3 1938 at the age of 76. William was a very industrio u s man and desired to be in debt to no man. At his death he had no debt s . He felt that it was dearer to borrow by far than to buy. He sa i d a t o ne time that it wasn’t where we were buried that counted but h o w we lived. Also that it wasn’t so much how proud we were of our ancest or s but how proud they would be of us; that each of us owed it to the fa mil y name to make it a good name. He worked very hard and made a good li vin g and home for his family and was revered by all who knew him.
Note: The above account was written by my mother, Geniel Lillie Jacobs o n Partridge. Grandpa passed away before I was born. I remember mother o ft en telling me stories of Grandpa W. C. Partridge and how very ki n d h e w as to her as a daughter-in-law. I heard that he had a great sen se o f humor and dry wit. She loved and respected him highly.
