      Mayflower Families 18:2, page 66, states that Elizabeth Sprague, 5th gen e ration descendant of Richard Warren, married William Whipple, born 168 5 , died after 1759, son of William and Mary (----) Whipple. This is corr ec ted to read Elizabeth Sprague married ca. 1714, William Whipple, Jr. , bor n ca 1691; died Smithfield RI, 16 Nov 1776; son of William and Mar y (--- ) Whipple.
      Captain John1 Whipple and his wife Sarah (----) had eleven children, inc l uding William2 and David. William2 and Mary (----) Whipple had William 3 ( c1691 - 16 Nov 1776); Mary; and Seth (c1696 - 1724). David2 and Hanna h (T ower) Whipple had seven children, including William3 (27 May 168 5 - 1743) . Identity of William Whipple, Jr. as the husband of Elizabet h Sprague i s made by a 1734 Providence RI deed, in which "William Whippl e, Jr., brot her of Seth Whipple," sold land formerly granted to Seth Whi pple, and sig ned by William's wife, Elizabeth, with an "X."


      FATHER: Some sources state that this William's father is David(2), Cap t . John(1). Others indicate that this William's father is William(2), Ca pt . John(1). Email from Joanne Lahr-Kreischer to the Whipple Web Site o n 2 9 Sep 1997 has persuaded the family webmaster to choose David(2), Cap t. J ohn(1). The webmaster reversed that decision following receipt of "C aptai n John Whipple's Two Grandsons Named William Whipple: A Reply" fro m Charl es Whipple, 1 Nov 2002.
