- Obituary:
Douglas "Doc" Warren Jensen left this world on Wednesday, July 19th, 201 7 . His life was filled with service to others and daily kind deeds. He w a s one of the friendliest, most tender-hearted men who freely gave of h i s time and talents to anyone in need. He had the most incredible "gif t o f gab." If you knew him at all--and even if you didn't and just cross ed h is path--it's more than likely you have been swept up in a long conv ersat ion filled with humor, wonder, praise, philosophy, beauty, homily , and mo re than a little good-natured "bullshit." During these often per sonal, in timate chats, you knew undeniably that you were the most import ant perso n to Doug, his best friend. And you truly were. He loved you. Y ou felt a s if you could listen to him forever, and every ending was to o soon. A gi fted artist, Doug could turn things like wood, paint, and ev en eggshell s into pieces worthy of display. Even his gardens and ground s attracted a dmirers. Ever self-critical, he struggled to accept prais e for his effort s, but we all marveled at his skillful work .
Doug was born in Gunnison, Utah, but his family moved to Vernal whil e h e was a boy, so he grew up in the Basin. He loved this town and the p eopl e in it. Some of his fondest memories stemmed from his early life o n th e game farm, where he developed a life-long love of animals and wher e h e learned his hunting and fishing skills. He spent many peaceful hour s fl y fishing the Green River, often with a dog or a daughter in tow. An d man y a campfire was honored by his Dutch oven cooking .
Doug married Roberta Jean Abbott of Spanish Fork in 1971 and soon move d h is growing family to Chicago, where he earned his Doctorate in Denta l Sur gery degree. The couple returned to Vernal so he could practice hi s trade . Doug was a gentle dentist, applying his artistic talents and ca ring per sonality to his work. He also gave much of his time to the commu nity, ser ving as a scoutmaster, coach, church leader, teacher, member o f the searc h and rescue, and helping whomever and however he could. Dou g and Robbi e raised their six spirited children on Robinwood Lane unti l Robbie tragi cally passed in 1995. In November 1996 ,
Doug married Lisa Ann Summarell. Not only did Doug gain his best frien d , but he also added another daughter. The adventurous couple settled i n M aesar, bought a motorcycle, and started taking many trips to exotic l ocat ions--like Wendover. Together they enjoyed working on projects, bowl ing , driving around the mountains hunting for rocks and landscaping piec es , building and collecting things, hanging out with friends and family , an d laughing and loving.
Despite Doug's physical and mental health problems later in life, they e n joyed a good life together. Doug is preceded in death by his father (Ro be rt) and mother (Ruth), sister (Jocelyn), and first wife (Roberta). H e i s survived by his wife (Lisa); daughters Jeanna (Jason), Jessica (Ben /Mar k), Kristen (George), Karianne (John), and Chrystal; sons Jeremy (Su ki) a nd Kyle (Vicky); brother Lewis; and 13 wonderful grandkids.
