St. George Utah – Ben Call Marler, 79 years old, passed away, Thursday , S eptember 20, 2007. He was born January 15, 1928 just minutes before h is t win sister, in Kansas City, Missouri to Vesa Call and Ezra L. Marler . H e married the love of his life, Annette Pierce Marler, November 7, 19 52 i n the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day S aints .
Ben lived in Independence, and grew up on Pleasant Street, (ironically t h is was reflected in his whole countenance), until he left to attend Bri gh am Young University. He served three missions for The Church of Jesu s Chr ist of Latter-day Saints. The first mission, as a young man was t o the Ce ntral States. The next mission was with his companion and sweeth eart, Ann ette. As a couple, they served a leadership mission to the Libe rty Stak e in Salt Lake City, Utah. Then, fulfilling a lifelong dream the y serve d a third mission to the Nashville, Tennessee mission. Seeking re tirement , they moved to St. George Utah. Shortly thereafter, Ben was cal led to se rve as the first Bishop of the newly formed Morningside 2nd War d. Ben att ended BYU and the University of Tennessee. He received his Bac helors Degr ee from BYU. Ben was a great patriot and loved his country, h e served i n Korea with the United States Army. Ben and Annette have resi ded in Sal t Lake City Utah, Grand Junction Colorado, Harriman Tennessee , and St. Ge orge Utah.
Ben loved to plan trips! He loved to travel and has traveled through o u t the United States, to England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Korea and C os ta Rica. Ben's sense of humor and memory were legendary. He has a joke , o r story for almost every situation. Ben's life was filled with consta nt , unconditional and enduring love and service to his wife, Annette, hi s f amily, and to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and th e ma ny friends whom he cherished. Every community in which Ben and Annet te re sided benefitted from his hard work and dedication to making a diff erenc e in the world. He and Annette never knew a stranger, they love t o have v isitors and company, everyone who walks through their door feel s welcome… he never missed an opportunity to invite people to their home , and everyo ne who calls the house hears his message, "We'll leave the l ight on for y ou!"
He is survived by his wife, Annette Pierce Marler, St. George, UT, daugh t er, Shahara Ann Marler Davis, Salt Lake City, UT, grandchildren: Keish a L eigh Davis Weight (Kevin), Mesa, AZ, Kjord Ben Davis, Los Angeles, CA , Ki mball Jared Davis, Salt Lake City, UT, Kambria Keara Davis, Salt Lak e Cit y, UT, great-grandchildren: Braxton Petersen Davis, Salt Lake City , UT, J ackson Ben Weight, Mesa AZ, twin sister, Gwen Barney (Dean), Sal t Lake Ci ty, UT, Ramon Sanft and family. Preceded in death by parents, E zra & Ves a Marler, OC Marler, Mary Howard, Chester Marler, Kenneth Marle r, and Bet ty Dalby.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Mornings i de 2nd Ward, 879 S. River Rd. Interment will take place in the Tonaqui n t Cemetery, St. George, Utah.
