    • Obituary:
Melvin Curt Richins, age 67, of Escalante, died June 23, 2012 in St Geor g e.

Curt was born in Salt Lake City, March 16, 1946, to Bonnie Gayle Denni s a nd Marland Lumon Richins. Curt met and later married Diane Griffin o n Feb ruary 22, 1987 in Escalante.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He a l ways said that he had a testimony deeper than anyone would ever know.

He was such a strong and courageous man full of life and lessons. He w a s always more concerned for others than himself. Always said his drug s an d alcohol were his dogs, horses, and his hot rods .

He always went the extra mile in assisting others during their time of n e ed without any worry of monetary gain for himself. The friendships an d sm iles during those times are what made it worth while to him.

Some of the fondest things in his life was spending time with family a n d friends, telling his stories of herding cows, the desert and saying " ba ck when I was a kid..." the good ole days at Rockys, the teamanship an d h ow they always had each others back and still do with a bond so stron g n o words need be said, working in his shop, and driving his tow truck , whi ch always kept him on his toes.

Honored was he to be a member of both Garfield and Kane County Sheriff s o ffices, in any way they needed him .

Creating life-long friendships and brother-hood within the police office r s, search and rescue members, and the fire department.

He was a great dad, grandpa, brother, son, friend, and teacher who was a l ways there to listen and not afraid to tell you how things were. One o f h is greatest lessons was "if you can't figure it out, there's alway s a bac k door, a way to figure it out to get ya by, build things one bri ck a t a time."

Survived by his wife, Diane Richins; mothers; children, and step-daughte r . His brothers. 32 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Precede d i n death by his father, Mel Richins and sister Lynnette Richins.
