RUSSELL GARDNER WILLIAMS
1929-2014
Russell Gardner Williams passed away in the early morning on May 7, 20 1 4 . He was born March 19, 1929 in Salt Lake City to Lewis Thomas Willi a m s a nd Lucile Gardner Williams. He shared a happy Childhood growin g u p i n th e Avenues of Salt Lake with his older brother, Keith and you nge r sis ter, Marie. He attended Ensign Elementary, Bryant Junior High a nd E ast H ig h in Salt Lake City.
From 1948 - 1950, he served as a missionary in the New England State s M i s sion for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On Jun e 25 , 1 95 1, he married Dorothy Russell in the Salt Lake Temple. They w ere m arri e d for 62 years and are the parents of five children. He grad uate d wi t h a degree in History from the University of Utah in 1952.
Russell served faithfully in his church as a Bishop of the Rose Pa r k 6 t h Ward, Stake President of the Salt Lake Grant Stake and a Counse lo r i n t he Kaysville East Stake Presidency. He cherished serving as a n Or dina nc e Worker in the Bountiful Utah Temple with his wife, Dorothy . On e of His greatest desires was to be remembered as a faithful home te acher .
Russell was fulfilled in his professional career and enjoyed the privi l e g e of diverse experiences. He taught school in the Granite School Di st ri ct, worked as the Personnel Director for Associated Foods as well a s M an agi ng Director of Personnel for The Church of Jesus Christ of Lat ter- Da y Sai nts. One of his greatest accomplishments was serving as ASP A (Am eri can So ciety for Public Administration) president in 1976. Late r in h is c areer, he went into business for himself and started a consul ting bu sine ss, Wi lliams Associates.
Russell loved sports. He was an avid fan of the University of Utah's f o o t ball and basketball teams. He had season tickets for many years an d r ar el y missed a game. He truly was "A Utah Man".
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith, sister Marie , d a u ghter Jeannette, his in-laws Howard and LaRue Russell and many ot he r fa mi ly and friends. He is survived by his spouse, Dorothy, his chi ldr en Gr an t (Sandy), David, Jeff (Laura) and Jan (Neal) Smith, 10 gran dchi ldren, fi ve great grandchildren, and another soon to be born.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Avalon Care Cente r , B r istol Hospice and Utah Senior Planning.
Funeral services will be held Monday May 12, at 11:00 am at the Ston e C r e ek LDS Chapel, 1475 North 300 West Bountiful, Utah. A viewing wil l b e h el d at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 North 400 East Bountif ul , Uta h o n Sunday, May 11 from 6:00-8:00 pm and Monday before the ser vic e fro m 9:3 0-10:30 am at Stone Creek LDS Chapel. Interment in the Sa lt L ake Ci ty Cem etery.
