This Barbara Rice was born April 24, 1706 in Warwick (Ar nold' s VR) and married Langford on May 11, 1727 in East Greenwich , R I (Arnol d's VR). Births of six of their children are recorded in Eas t Greenwich , RI (Arnold's VR).
The Barbara Rice who married Benjamin Arnold was born March 18, 1723/ 2 4 (Arnold Bible records copied 1936 by Josephine Keefer Short and avail ab le at the RI Historical Society). She was the daughter of John Rice, J r . (1696-1746/7), tho John and Elnathan (Whipple) Rice, and Avis Tibbet t s (d. 1760), making her the niece of the first Barbara Rice and stil l a W hipple descendant. | Langford, John (I26830)

"The first Hannah Whipple, d/o Eleazer and Alice (Angell), b. abt 3/ 5 /1695 from her age of 32-0-6 when she died 4/1/1727 (Arnold's VR), marr ie d William Arnold (s/o John and Mary (Mowry) Arnold) 12/27/1717 in Prov ide nce, RI (Arnold's VR). William and this Hannah are the parents of fiv e ch ildren whose births are recorded in Smithfield, RI (Arnold's VR). Af ter h er death William Arnold married Margaret Capron (5/5/1729), Hanna h Haywor d (4/1/1740), and Hannah Whipple (5/18/1755). The Hannah Whipple who married William Arnold in 1755 is the d/o J o b and Silence (Pray) Whipple, but she most likely was not born in 169 5 a s Silence was born abt 1681 (per her tombstone). The first marriage r ecor d I have for this Hannah Whipple is to Nathaniel Eddy on 2/22/1738/3 9 i n Smithfield (Arnold's VR). She is listed in this record as Hannah Wh ippl e, d/o Capt. Job Whipple, so it would appear that this is her firs t marri age. She (Hannah Eddy) next marries William Arnold on 5/18/1755 i n Smithf ield, RI (Arnold's VR). The last marriage I show for her (Hanna h Arnold , d/o Job Whipple) is to Uriah Mowry (of Henry) on 12/28/1773 i n Smithfie ld, RI (Arnold's VR).

" The next day, 31 Oct he writes: "...old Whipple buryed." Also, the N e w London Vital Records name "David" Whipple as Father of Jonathan Whipp l e (who married Elizabeth Dart), disproving the contentions of some wh o na me a "Jonathan Whipple, Sr." married to an Angell as Jonathan (of Ne w Lon don's) parents.

Although the Newport Common Burial Grounds records state that Jose p h (2) is buried there, without a stone, that isn't necessarily the cas e . Just a few words on Newport research, from Vincent F. Luti's "Mall e t & Chisel:Gravestone Carvers of Newport, Rhode Island, in the 18th Cen tu ry," p. 8:
"Genealogical research on colonial Newport is complicated by t h e poor state of many of the surviving documents, which were damaged dur in g the Revolution. In 1778, after nearly three years of British occupat ion , Newport was under heavy siege. Walter Chaloner, the town sheriff a n d a Tory, fled on a British man-of-war with all the probate records, de ed s, and vital records under his jurisdiction. His ship ran aground in N e w York Harbor. Retrieved from the watery depths, the boxes were left i n s torage for some time. When they were finally unpacked, the extent o f th e damage was revealed. The remnants of the records are now preserve d in b ound volumes at the Newport Historical Society, but the contents o f any g iven page may be from different documents, often of different dat es. Furt hermore, almost all are faded to differing degrees of indecipher ability.. ."
Fully 1/2 or more of the documents were lost, so it's hard to draw m a ny conclusions in Newport.

The first Eleazer did have a son, ensign James, c. 1686/87, wh o i s buried with him in the Whipple-Mowry Lot in Lincoln. Date of death , acc ording to the RI Historical Cemeteries database, is 3 Oct 1731. whi pple.o rg has E nsign James married to Mary Williams. There are no childr en list ed.
