    Kelly Brian O'Neil passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the age o f 6 2, after years of a strong battle with cancer.

    He is preceded in death by his firstborn twin boys, Peter and Patrick a n d granddaughter, Camille. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judi , a nd by five wonderful and challenging boys, who brought into his life , th e daughters-in-law and grandchildren he loves so much. Shannon (Dawn ), Le eloo & Xander of Payson, UT. Trevor (Sarah), Tarah, Gideon, Elsie , Divya , & Ronan of Vernal, UT. Brandon (Katie), Esme, Kyson, Indy, & Na vy of Or em, UT. Clayton (Katlyn), Kelvin & River Hirschi of Tucson, AZ , & Daedrid , Ayden, & Valiniera, of Fort Worth TX, & the caboose, Camero n (Andrea) , Camille & Kylie of Vernal, UT. For those who are counting th at's 7 sons , 5 living, 18 grandchildren, 17 living.

    Kelly was born to Dorothy May Peterson and Charles Brian O'Neil in Verna l , Utah and grew up with his sisters, Peggy (Darwin) Wareing of Black Fo ot , ID, Brenda (Kenneth, deceased) French, of Glendale CA, Marilyn (Pres ton ) Crofts, of Westland, MI, brother Michael (Debra) O'Neil of South Pa sade na, CA, and sister Connie (Eugene) Dye of Roy, UT, where Kelly was t he ca boose and second son.

    As a youth, he participated in 4H clubs learning dog training, cooking , a nd earning blue and purple ribbons at County and State Fairs. As a Cu b Sc out, he earned his Webelos badge, Faith in God, and his Arrow of Lig ht aw ard. Later as a Boy Scout, he earned his Eagle Rank and On My Hono r awar d and continued in the honored BSA organization, Order of the Arro w. Al l this experience built a wholehearted and lifelong dedication to t he Sco uting program working in many capacities on the local, Council, an d Secti on levels. Kelly also served in many positions in the Church of J esus Chr ist of Latter-day Saints.

    Kelly attended Central Elementary school, Vernal Jr. High and graduate d f rom Uintah High School. After a time at BYU, he returned home to work . H e married Judith Ann Griffin on November 24, 1976, in the Salt Lake T empl e and embarked on the journey of raising their family.

    Kelly started his working career as a 10-year-old paperboy working for h i s dad, then continued to a 35-year career with the phone company.

    Funeral services will be held at the Vernal Ashley Stake Center on Satur d ay, December 21, 2019, at 11 am. A viewing will be held Friday evening , D ec 20, at the Blackburn & Sons Vernal Mortuary.

    Charles Brian O'Neil, 90, passed away on December 31, 2008 in Heber Cit y , UT.


    He was born November 1, 1918 in Sheffield, England to Charles Priestle y a nd Annie Louisa Hobson O'Neil. His family emigrated to Kaysville, U T i n 1 920 where he attended school and graduated from Davis High School . Wh ile in grade school, he began his 52-year association with the Sal t Lak e newspapers as a carrier for the Salt Lake Telegram.


    He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northwestern States Missio n . In World War II he served in the Naval Air Transport Service in Oakla nd , California and there renewed his acquaintance with Lt. J.G. Doroth y Ma y Peterson. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 14 , 19 4 5.


    Upon their release from the Navy, Dorothy and Brian moved to Vernal, U T w here Brian was the Uintah Basin distributor of The Salt Lake Tribun e an d later added The Deseret News. He worked with several hundred boy s train ing them as newspaper carriers. Many remember and value the thin g she tau ght them. They owned and operated the Credit Bureau of Vernal f or 27 year s.


    His life was one of dedicated service to the LDS Church. He was stake cl e rk for nine years, counselor in the Uintah Stake Presidency for 13 yea r s and Vernal Third Ward bishop for 10 years. He and Dorothy served a mi ss ion in Scotland where he served as bishop of Inverness Ward. Other chu rc h service includes two stake missions, instructor of the High Priest s gro up, New Scout leader, Stake historian, Stake librarian and Distric t Scout ing Chairman.


    Brian is survived by his sister Kathleen Blamires, Kaysville, UT and bro t her Kenneth, Boise, Idaho, children, Margaret (Peggy) (Darwin) Warein g o f Blackfoot, ID; Brenda French of Glendale, CA; Marilyn (Preston) Cro ft s of Westland, MI; Michael (Debra) of South Pasadena, CA; Connie (Euge ne ) Dye of Roy, UT; and Kelly (Judi) of Heber City, UT. He is survived b y 2 5 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He was always proud of hi s fa mily and loved them very much. His parents; his wife, Dorothy; a sis ter , Dorothy Burton, Bountiful, UT; son-in-law Kenneth French, Glendale , CA ; twin grandsons and twin granddaughters preceded him in death.


    Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 10, 2009 in the G l ines Stake Center Chapel in Vernal UT. Viewings will be held on Fri d a y a t the Thomson Blackburn Vernal Mortuary located at 100 North Vern a l Avenue in Vernal from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m . a t the Stake Center.

    Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of t h e Thomson Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.

    Dorothy Peterson O'Neil, age 78, died April 28, 1998 at her home in Vern a l, Utah. She was born June 23, 1920 in Provo, UT to John Harry and Este ll a Clayton Peterson.

    She spent her early life in Idaho Falls, Idaho and Missoula, Montana whe r e she graduated from Montana County High School. Following graduation f ro m the University of Montana in 1941 she was on the faculty of the Univ ers ity as Acquisitions Librarian for three years. During World War II sh e se rved in the WAVES as a Lt.J.G. in the code room of the Twelfth Nava l Dist rict in San Francisco.She married C. Brian O'Neil of Kaysville, U T on Feb ruary 14, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. After the war they move d to Verna l to become distributors of the Salt Lake newspapers in the Ui ntah Basi n for 40 years. In addition they owned and operated the Credi t Bureau o f Vernal for 27 years and she served as President of the Assoc iated Credi t Bureaus of Utah. She was active in community affairs, she w as a membe r of the Selective Service Board, Key Leader in the 4-H progra m and presi dent of the Central School PTA. Teaching and training youth w as importan t to her. She guided her children and their friends for man y years in th e 4-H program and in Cub Scouting or Scouting, for which sh e was awarde d the Silver Fawn (Beaver) Award in 1973. Her life was one o f service, pa rticularly in the LDS Church, as President of the Uintah St ake YWMIA an d of Vernal Third Ward Relief Society, Secretary of the Uint ah Stake an d glines Stake Relief Societies, Secretary of the Vernal Thir d Ward Youn g Women, Stake Cub Scout Director and New Scout Leader. Durin g 1987-88 sh e and her husband served in the Scotland Edinburg mission wh ere he was bi shop of the Inverness ward. They also served a Glines Stak e mission. The y enjoyed traveling and were able to visit many countrie s of the world wh ere they formed friendships that continued with corresp ondence afterward.

    She is survived by her husband C. Brian, of Vernal; children: Peggy (Dar w in) Wareing, Blackfoot, Idaho; Brenda (Kenneth) French, Glendale, CA; M ar ilyn (Preston) Crofts, Westland, MI; Michael (Debra) O'Neil, South Pas ade na, CA; Connie (Gene) Dye, Roy, UT; Kelly (Judi) O'Neil, Vernal, UT . Sh e is survived by 25 grandchildren; a brother, John H. Peterson, Jr , of Bo untiful, UT; and a sister, Arlene Martinn, Wenatchee, Washington . She wa s preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth Romney, Tempe , AZ; an d twin grandsons.

    Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 3, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the G l ines Stake Center, 475 West 100 South. Friends may call on Sunday eveni n g at the Hullinger-Jolley Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday fro m 9 :45-10:45 at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Vernal Memori al P ark under the direction of the Hullinger-Jolley Funeral Home.
