He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Los Angeles. H e wa s a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and he participated in Th e Boo k of the Play. He was so proud of the fact that he enjoyed a person al mee ting with Frank S. Land, the founder of the International Order o f DeMola y with headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. Ray bequeathed a v ery consi derable amount of his large estate to the Shriner's Hospital fo r Cripple d children in Los Angeles and the Shriner's children's Burn Hos pital in G alveston, Texas.

    ELIAS CHARLES DISNEY ~
was the husband of Flora Call Disney and the father of Walt Disney, (Wal t er Elias Disney). His other children are Herbert Arthur Disney, Raymon d A rnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney and one daughter Ruth Flora Disney .

Elias Charles Disney is entombed next to his wife Flora Call Disney with i n the Great Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Truth concourse in Forest La w n Memorial-Park in Glendale, California .

Walt Disney and his family are remembered in a beautiful private garde n n ear the Freedom Mausoleum in Forest Lawn in Glendale. Other family i s i n Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in the Hollywood Hills and other cemeteri es i n California and Missouri and elsewhere.

Elias was born in the Village of Bluevale, Ontario, Province of Canada a n d the the son of Irish immigrants Kepple Elias Disney and Mary Richards on . The name "Elias" is a version of the name Elijah, the prophet. Bot h o f Elias' parents had immigrated from Ireland as children with their p aren ts. Elias lived in California and Ellis, Kansas, and in Colorado an d in F lorida before moving with his family to Chicago.

Elias held very strict Christian family values and he instilled these va l ues in his children! He was known as a stern man and he was active in t h e Congregational Church where he often would preach strong sermons tout in g sobriety when the regular minister was not available! He never dran k al cohol and seldom smoked. He felt that going to a movie house and mos t oth er forms of entertainment "to be a complete waste of time."

To be certain, Elias loved his family and he was likely under pressure d u e to financial problems. At the time Elias passed away, Walt Disney sai d : "I adored my dad because he always set very high standards for his ch il dren; he desired for each one of us to be successful!"

Disney married Flora Call on January 1, 1888, in Kismet, Florida, 50 mil e s from the land on which Walt Disney World would eventually be built a n d lived for a short time they in adjoining Acron, Florida. She was th e da ughter of his father's neighbors. Soon after marriage, the Disney' s move d to Chicago, Illinois, where Elias met and befriended Walter Parr , St. P aul Congregational Church's preacher, for whom the Disney's fourt h son, W alter, was named; his full name being Walter Elias Disney! By th e turn o f the century, Elias had become an active building contractor. H e built h ouses which he owned and then resold at a fair profit. He als o built th e Saint Paul Congregational Church, a building dedicated on Oc tober 14, 1 900. Elias was one of the church's trustees, while his wife F lora was it s treasurer.

In 1906 Disney moved his family to a small farm in Marceline, Missouri b e cause he feared the rising crime rate in Chicago and he wanted his chil dr en to live in a much safer environment. It was on this farm in Marceli n e where Walt Disney and his siblings Roy and Ruth often would sit und e r a huge tree close to the family home and dream and Walt later named t hi s "The Dreaming Tree!" Also, in Marceline Walt drew some of his earlie s t drawings for a neighbor who was a prominent physician who asked and p ai d Walt to draw sketches of his beloved horse. Marceline was the plac e whe re Walt was first exposed to all sorts of animals that likely ingra ined i n his heart the love for all animals as he would later portray i n so man y of his beloved animated and even true life films!

The family sold the farm on November 28, 1910, as Elias fell ill. He w a s suffering from typhoid fever, followed by pneumonia. The Disney's liv e d in a rented house in Marceline, probably at 508 North Kansas Avenue u nt il 1911, when they moved to Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in a ren te d house at 2706 East Thirty-first Street. They stayed there until the y bo ught their own modest home in September of 1914. It was situated a t 302 8 Bellefontaine Street and today is recognized as the home where th e Disn ey Family permanently resided for a number of years. The Benton El ementar y School was nearby where Walt and Ruth attended school.

On July 1, 1911, Elias purchased a newspaper delivery route for The Kans a s City Star. It extended from Twenty-seventh Street to Thirty-first Str ee t, and from Prospect Avenue to Indiana Avenue. Roy and Walt were put t o w ork delivering the newspapers. The Disney's delivered the morning new spap er known as The Kansas City Times to about 700 customers and the eve nin g and Sunday Kansas City Star to more than 600 customers. Both paper s wer e published by William Rockhill Nelson. Their customers increased w ith ti me. Elias also delivered butter and eggs to his newspaper customer s. The y were regularly imported from a dairy farm in Marceline.

Elias' sons Raymond Arnold Disney and Roy Oliver Disney were bank telle r s at the First National Bank at 10th and Baltimore Avenue (now the Cent ra l Library) in downtown Kansas City, Missouri when Walt was establishin g h is first short-lived animation studio he named Laugh-O-gram Studio i n th e McConaughey Building located at 1127 E. 31st Street (31st Street a nd Fo rest Avenue) also in Kansas City, Missouri. This original buildin g remain s today, albeit in disrepair, and hopefully will be fully restor ed! A mos t concerted effort is in place to renew this building !

Raymond Arnold Disney's son who is Charles Elias Disney was named afte r h is grandfather Elias Charles Disney. Elias only saw Charles Elias Dis ne y for a short time before he passed away on his grandsons first birthd a y on September 13, 1941.

Elias sold the paper route on March 17, 1917. He had been investing in t h e O-Zell Company of Chicago since 1912 and moved back to the city in 19 1 7 to take an active role in its management. The Disney's rented a Chica g o flat at 1523 Ogden Avenue.

He retired from management work in 1920 and moved back to Kansas City . H e was again working as a carpenter. He moved to Portland, Oregon by S epte mber-October in the autumn of 1921. His son Herbert and family had e arlie r moved to this city.

He was a fiddler himself and would bring home anyone else who could pl a y an instrument. Elias loved music and he also wanted his family to enj o y music!

Elias lived to see his two sons Walt Disney, (Walter Elias Disney) and R o y Oliver Disney establish the Disney Bros. Studio and later Walt Disne y P roductions, which today is known as The Walt Disney Company. He was v er y proud of his sons accomplishments and he really loved and was fascin ate d with Walt's early animated films!

Sadly, his wife Flora Disney passed away on November 26, 1938 as the res u lt of gas asphyxiation in their home due to a lingering and hidden ga s le ak. Elias never fully recovered from this terrible emotional loss! E lia s Charles Disney was a decent man and with all of the struggles lif e seem ed to bring him, Elias never refrained from loving and providing f or hi s beloved family!

Elias Charles Disney passed from this life on September 13, 1941.

Elias married Flora Call on 1 Jan 1888 in Kismet, Lake, Florida, United States. Flora (daughter of Charles Henry Call and Henrietta Catherine Gross) was born on 22 Apr 1868 in Steuben, Huron, Ohio, United States; died on 26 Nov 1938 in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States; was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles, California, United States. FLORA CALL DISNEY ~
was the wife of Elias Charles Disney. She is the mother of Walt Disney , ( Walter Elias Disney). Her other children were Herbert Arthur Disney , Raym ond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney and Ruth Flora Disney .

Elias Charles Disney and his wife Flora Call Disney are entombed withi n t he Great Mausoleum in the Sanctuary of Truth in Forest Lawn Memorial- Par k in Glendale, California.

Walt Disney and his family are remembered in a beautiful private garde n i n another location in this same Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale , Ca lifornia. Other family is in Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale a nd th e Hollywood Hills.

Flora was born in Steuben, Ohio, the daughter of Henrietta (née Gross) ( 1 837–1910) and Charles Call (1823–1890), who were neighbors of Kepple El ia s Disney and Mary Disney, parents of Elias Charles Disney, her husband . S he was of German and English descent .

She was a devoted and loving wife to Elias Charles and she raised thei r c hildren affirming the strict Christian values she and Elias wanted t o ins till in each one of their children.

The many moves Elias often needed to make were accepted by Flora becau s e she believed each move was intended to make their family closer and h op efully more financially sound, and she wanted their children to experi enc e other regions of the country. Flora fortunately was a very calm pre senc e to Elias and each one of their children.

It was Flora who seemed to temper the strict and rigid disposition of El i as and she calmed him when he did seem less tolerable when he was fraug h t with disciplinary actions with their children. To be certain, Elias l ov ed his family and he was likely under pressure due to financial proble ms ! Flora really enjoyed reading stories daily and even often playing ga me s with their children.

In Marceline, Missouri, when the Disney Family owned a small farm, Flo r a always made certain the children had good meals, warm clothes in th e co lder months, and that they spent time outside playing and learning a bou t the various farm animals on their farm. Walt was first exposed to a ll s orts of farm animals that most likely ingrained in his heart his dee p lov e for animals as he would later portray in so many of his beloved a nimate d and true-life films! In later years Walt would often reminiscenc e abou t the good times on the farm in Marceline and about the many anima ls he l oved and that his parents wanted him to respect and to enjoy an d to love !

It was in Marceline when Elias bought Flora her first sewing machine. S h e was quite a seamstress and she made most of the clothes for the child re n. She liked red and blue threads and used a lot of these colors on he r n ew leg-powered sewing machine!

When the Disney's lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Flora always made su r e each child had a good sack lunch for school and when Walt and Roy del iv ered newspapers for Elias early each morning and again after school, F lor a saw to it that the boys were dressed properly with extra layers o f clot hes in the cold bitter winters and that they had good food to eat.

Flora always did her best to see that the children knew that their birth d ays were special even though it was seldom an experience for Flora t o b e able to have enough eggs to bake cakes. She would spread "extra but ter " on a fresh slice of home baked bread and make this a special gift f or e ach one of their birthdays.

She and Elias were quite happy when the family moved to Kansas City. S h e encouraged each of their children to be excited about each new day a n d to dream about the future. Flora felt things were more stable for he r f amily in Kansas City as they were all working!

Sons Raymond Arnold Disney and Roy Oliver Disney were bank tellers at t h e First National Bank in downtown Kansas City, Missouri at the same ti m e Walt opened his first animation studio he called Laugh-O-gram Studi o lo cated at 31st and Forest Avenue. This original building remains toda y, al beit in disrepair, and hopefully will be fully restored! A most con certe d effort is in place to renew this building !

Raymond Arnold Disney's son who is Charles Elias Disney was named afte r h is grandfather Elias Charles Disney. Elias only saw Charles Elias fo r a s hort time before he passed away on his grandsons first birthday o n Septem ber 13, 1941.

After several years in Kansas City, Flora and Elias moved to Oregon t o b e with their son Herbert Arthur Disney and his family, and then the y move d to California at the insistence of Walt and Roy.

After the success of their milestone feature animated film "Snow White a n d the Seven Dwarfs" in 1938, Walt and Roy presented their parents wi t h a new home in North Hollywood, near the Disney studios in Burbank, Ca li fornia. Less than a month after moving in, Flora complained to Walt an d R oy of problems with the gas furnace in her new home. Studio repairme n wer e sent to the house twice, but the problem was obviously not adequa tely f ixed. Flora wrote a letter to her daughter Ruth describing their w onderfu l new home, the beautiful California weather, and how very happ y she an d Elias were to be close to Walt and Roy, but again complainin g of the fu mes from the furnace.

Flora passed from this life on Saturday, November 26, 1938 (two days aft e r Thanksgiving) as the result of asphyxiation caused by the fumes. On T ha nksgiving day Flora and Elias had enjoyed a lovely dinner with Walt an d L illian and Roy and Edna in Walt's home. The loss of his Mother plague d Wa lt Disney with much deep grief for the rest of his life. Walt felt p erson ally responsible for the furnace not being repaired properly. It wa s Ro y Oliver Disney who comforted and reassured both Walt and Elias an d the r est of the family that "the tragic and very sad loss of Flora wa s no one' s fault!"

Walt and his siblings thought about their beloved Mother for the res t o f their lives! Flora was a woman of strong Christian character and he r fa mily was everything to her. And she was everything to them!

"May Flora Call Disney Rest In Peace." Amen.
