Newspaper Article:
LOCAL MAN DIES IN RESCUE ATTEMPT
Preston, Idaho: Harold Eames Benson, long time resident of Preston, died Thursday afternoon in the crash of his small plane. He had been flying as part of an effort to find another pilot lost and presumed down in Southern Utah.
Benson, an electrical engineer, had joined in a search for a missing Cessna piloted by George Henry of Logan, Utah. He had been flying for nearly an hour when he radioed that he was experiencing difficulty and was returning to the airport at Cedar City. He was not heard from again, but searchers found the wreckage of his plane 30 miles west of the airport.
Benson had served on a submarine in the navy during World War II and had been highly decorated. His mother, Lillie E. Benson, is city treasurer in Preston.
Benson leaves behind his wife of one year, Shirley, and their infant daughter. Funeral services are pending.
