- Obituary: Joyce J. Bushnell 12/23/20 ~ 12/25/05 Joyce J. Bushnell, 85, passed away 25 December 2005 in Fillmore, Utah. She was born in Holden, Utah, 23 December 1920 to Thaddeus Orson and Neva Nixon Johnson. She married Faryl G. Bushnell 4 May 1942 in her parents home. The marriage was later sealed in the Manti Temple. As the consummate homemaker, she was known for delicious food grown in her own garden, a clean and orderly home where everything had its place, and clothing sewn with precision and style. Mother felt very strongly that everyone should be as well educated as possible. Upon her own high school graduation, she attended Brigham Young Academy for three years at a time when very few women had that opportunity. Throughout her life, she remained a lifelong learner and made sure her children and grandchildren were encouraged to seek educational opportunities of every kind. After her husband's death in 1960, Mother began a 27 year career at Millard High School as an administrative secretary to four principals. In 1977, she was honored as the Outstanding School Secretary for the State of Utah. Mother was a charter member of the Old Capitol Quilt Guild where she enjoyed sharing her skills and encouraging younger quilt-ers. Her quilts and quilted projects received numerous awards at the county fair. She and her daughters enjoyed much comradery as they combined their quilting talent for family members. Gardening was her second love where she enjoyed the companionship of her son, Dwight, as they turned the family gardening plot into a beautiful landscaped floral display. Mother's service in the Fillmore 1st Ward LDS Church was long and varied. She shared her love of education and her training in organization in many callings. She and her neighbor, Beth Cahoon, were devoted visiting teaching partners for many years. She shared both letter writing and financial support with her missionary grandchildren. Joyce was blessed with wonderful neighbors who lovingly cared for her throughout her later years. Her family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude for their many kindnesses. Mother is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Haynes R. Fuller (Pat) of Eden, Utah, Mrs. James H. Quigley (Bonnie) of New Canaan, Connecticut; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dwight J. Bushnell (Bobette) of Philomath, Oregon; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchil-dren; and three sisters, Mrs. Don S. Brimhall (Dawnie) of Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Jim Chrz (Sharon) of Nampa, Idaho, Mrs. Lewis Monsen (Janet) of Holden, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Faryl G. Bushnell; and her son, Dwight J. Bushnell. Services will be held at the Fillmore 1st Ward Building at 11 a.m. Wed-nesday, 28 December 2005. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to IHC Home Care, Fillmore Community Hospital, Fillmore, UT, 84631
